    Springfield Loaded 1911 MSH swap

So I couldn't take it any longer, 150 flawless rounds so far but I felt the need to do some tinkering. Went to Brownells web site and bought an Ed Brown magwell and MSH, new mainspring kit and a Wilson Combat one piece FLGR.

Took all of 15 minutes to replace the MSH and guide rod with no issues at all. Getting rid of the stock mainspring and going with a 23# spring made a noticeable difference in the trigger action, for the better.

The Wilson guide rod also dropped right in and no need for a barrel bushing wrench like lots of reviews I read mentioned as necessary. The jury is still out on whether or not I'm going to keep it, I need to shoot it first. The GI setup is supposed to be easier to disassemble but I had no issues with the full length rod and needed no tools.

I do have one question regarding mags. Will the 7 rounders with the bumper bases run flush with the bottom of the magwell or do I need to run 8 round mags?

First looking good. Second it depends on what mag or bumpers you buy. I bought some bumpers to put on the bottom of my SA mags and they hang a little low. I bought a couple of Chip McCormick 8 rounders with bumpers and they are almost flush they just hang low a small amount. Check Brownells for low profile mag pads.

my wilson combat 8 rounds sit a tiny bit below the magwell. I kept the 2 peice guide rod for a little while, i really believe it is more of a novelty thing then anything unless you like the look and dont mind the take down. I kinda like the way it looks with a FLGR but with no benefits and harder take down i swapped it out. Also with the two peice there is a chance of it coming undone..

That looks nice. I use the WC 47DE and extend a little lower than the Ed Brown magwell I installed on my Valor which isn't a bad thing. It helps get a positive engagement with the magazine catch.

Thanks guys, appreciate the input. I've read that 7 round mags are the most reliable but if I went with quality 8 round mags like CMC or WC are there any cycling issues? I like the idea of the mag protruding out just a little.

I have a couple of TRP's that have magwells. I use Wilson Combat 47DEs for positive engagement. No issues being eight rounders. WC all the way.

ive never had an issue with my 8 round mags, just a word of caution, some people experience that the slide doesnt lock back on the last round with wc 47 d mags me being one of them, it seems the spring just isnt strong enough that last little bit or something. Mine will lock the slide back but as soon as i drop the mag the slide drives forward. I heard the etm mags fixed that issue..
