Colt Python on CA DOJ Roster

Just curious, I passed up an opportunity to purchase a Python - 6" Bl. in Nickel because the only model I could find on the Roster was specified as Stainless, albeit in 6". I was advised that neither the Nickel nor Blued finishes were available for purchase by a CA resident as they were not specifically rostered. I did check the roster and, indeed, it is that specific as to the model and finish allowed.

Is this a case of my being overly cautious or is it actually legal to own a stainless version of a handgun that is illegal for me to own in a different finish -even nickel, which is really just a "prettier" version of stainless?

In considering the illogic, it dawned on me that the reason for this may be that in order to be included on the Roster the manufacturer has to make separate applications for each very specific model and Colt decided to apply only for the stainless version - thus the DoJ rostered only that specific weapon. If so, I really can't blame Colt since they have no reason to be applying for a series of approvals of handguns they ceased manufacturing a decade ago. Any comments welcome as to this issue or my conclusion as to the "rationale."

Also, a question - can anyone make an application to DoJ for rostering a handgun - for example, a collector/dealer who wanted to make a market in Pythons in CA?

    Never Mind

Sorry - I should have read through this great forum before posting this - go to the "Librarian" thread on the topic of the CA Safe Gun Roster - all my questions/concerns, and more, are fully asked and answered.

Buy all you want since they are considered "used"/not "new" so the roster is not an issue-what is an issue is that your pockets need to be very deep in long, long green in order to obtain just one. Not mine.
