Question: Sig P220 22 LR Conversion Kit compatibility

    Hi Folks,

New here and new to shooting in general, so forgive any noob misunderstanding. Considering getting a Sig P220 for SD/HD, but also getting a 22LR conversion kit so I can do some target practice for cheaper.

When I went to Sig's website I read this about their conversion kit:

These do not work with California compliant models (or models with a mag disconnect).
Now, I do see plenty of Sig owners in the forums do have a working conversion kit, so uhm, is this just a unique conversion kit model that isn't compatible? How would I know if I'm getting the correct version if I buy elsewhere? Thanks in advance.

A lot of P220 owners do not own a CA Compliant model with the LCI. You can still acquire off roster guns via SSE and PPT.

Haha, I've read about SSE with PPT, but it sounds like it's somewhat extra work and cost for that. I guess I could consider it if there's no conversion kit available for CA Sigs.

So I guess I should modify the question then -- are there any 22LR conversion kits for CA approved P220s (and where to find them)?

Nope. There are cheaper ways to practice.

With that price, why not get a mosquito to be your dedicated practice gun?

Unless they have added one recently, the SIG 220s on the roster don't have either the LCI or the mag disconnect.

The only models I've seen with them are the SIG 226 models

Thanks for the replies guys. I actually have a GSG 1911 for 22LR already, but I was considering a CA Sig conversion kit (if it existed) more for so I could shoot cheaper on the Sig, not necessarily to have a 22LR in the first place. Seeing the replies it seems that is not possible without doing SSE, and I guess I'll probably drop the idea of a conversion kit altogether.

You can find used P220 pistols easily.
The problem is the conversion kit is $300, additional mags are $40 or more.

Also, you cannot use the same kit on a P226 and P220 despite what you read on the internet.

With the shortage of 22ammo, skip the conversion kit for now

                  ^This.

No SSE necessary. I don't know of any 220 that has a loaded chamber indicator or magazine disconnect. The p220 that is on the California handgun list isn't a special California model, it was grandfathered on like Glocks and several others that also don't have any special California features. I could see SIG putting that language on their website to try and insulate themselves from some perceived legal problems.

I actually just picked up one of these conversion kits Friday. I haven't fired it yet, but it seems to fit on the frame fine, chambers a round, and ejects the round when I rack the slide, the hammer falls when I pull the trigger, and the decocker works. I haven't seen any indication that there will be a problem, but I'll update this post after I have a chance to get to the range.

So any updates yet? I was also interested in getting the conversion to use on my new P220 Equinox. I like the idea of having the same trigger pull and feel to use .22lr for practicing and plinking, then easily convert back to .45 for carry.
