    SIG p6 225

I've been offered a SIG p6 with 2 mags and holster. I've never shot one but hear good things about them. Does anyone know what they are worth. Or what I should pay for it? The condition is good looks like it was refinished at some point

I paid $380 for my W. German '81 mfg P6 in late 2010 (with 2 mags/holster), at the time that was an "ok" deal. I believe they typically go between $400-450 now.

Sweet shooter, no complaints, still @ current prices one hell of a bang for your buck, and is my favorite of the SIG P22x series.

depending on manufactured date, If I recall correctly, pre-'88, they may not reliably feed JHP's, mine didn't... polishing out the chamber and feed ramp was a simple fix, haven't had any problems since. I'd recommend purchasing a new P6/P225 springs/parts kit too.

        Disclaimer: I'm a SIG fanboy.

Around 2009-2010 they could be had at most gun stores for roughly 350.00 to 400.00 (plus tax and DROS). Typically came with one mag and a holster.

Today, in typical condition (>2000 round count, average cosmetic wear, but minimal wear on rails and barrel) Id price it in between 400.00 and 500.00. You say its been refinished? Is it Durakote or Cerakote? If the finish looks durable and well done with no mechanical or major cosmetic issues, Id feel comfortable paying 450.00.

P6's are a bargain, they're not going to depreciate in value. Buy it, polish the feed ramp, clean the hell out of it, and change the recoil spring.

I called Sig a while ago to ask about this exact same request. The rep told me that hammer spring is not part of the regular service package (because it NEVER wears out) so it will cost extra.

The cheapest (easiest) alternative is to buy the new hammer strut, 19lb spring from Wolff, plastic hammer boot, to replace the old style seat.

Good shooters but the pull is long and painful.

Make sure you check for matching serial numbers on the slide, frame, and barrel. There are exceptions (looking at Ronin2) but vast majority of P6s from that era have triple serials.

Look for the importer's mark, should be on the slide or frame. Some people prefer it to be on the slide. The one on the frame looks extra ugly for some reason.

Some people prefer original finish, even if it's worn. I think the worn finish gives it some character. Others would want to make it look nice.

Ronin2's suggestion is a good one. Send it back to Sig to be stripped, cleaned, and all wearable parts replaced. Plus Sig will throw in a set of night sights. At the very least, buy a new style trigger bar spring (my P6's old spring broke not long after I took possession of it) and a new recoil spring. Recoil spring should be replaced after 3000 to 5000 rounds.

I like mine - a lot! I'm a 1911 guy but this is a sweet pistol. Makes me wish the P226 had been adopted instead of the 92FS by the military. The Army uses the M11, essentially a P6 with a double stack magazine as a limited issue handgun. Can't ask for a better endorsement than that.

Love mine. Paid $340 OTD several years ago. I think they are worth about $450 now.

                        Small nitpick...

Size wise, M11 is like the P6, but is not a double stack version of it.

M11 is Sig P228, which is a chopped down version of P226.

P6, which is P225, is the chopped down version of P220.

P220 and P225 both have 1-piece frame rail. P226 and P228 have 2-piece frame rail. There are some other minor internal differences, but this is the most visually identifiable trait once you take off the slide.

Regardless, P6 is still a great value. Hard to imagine most of us missed the boat 6 years ago when they were $250 each.

I asked to to change out the mainspring and the barrel with a P225 mainspring and barrel. The sent back both of the old parts. I paid extra for this.

I love the feel of the single stack 225 in my hands. OP- if you have the money, I would go for it.

I was too cheap to pay Sig to do it, so I did it myself.

Wait, you changed the barrel too? Why? Was the old P6 barrel shot out?
