Worth changing the color of my DE

Is it really worth it? Since I barely shoot my DE anymore, I was thinking of sending it to Magnum to refinish it to one of there other types of finish. I remember it use to cost 5-600. Has anyone changed the color of their DE?

my buddy sent his back to mom for some work and to change the color / finish.

the work in regards for the FTFs was done rather quickly... it was the changing of the color / finish that took fooooooorever.

i did not ask the price but he was pretty upset about the lack of communication and the very long turn around.

if you rarely shoot your DE and would not mind it taking a vacation visiting the mothership then send it in... but know, it may be a while before it returns.

Thanks. I heard it takes up to six months to finish.

I have a MKVII DE in polished blue. When the 50AE came out, the only way to upgrade was to get a whole slide and barrel. I sent in the new slide and barrel to get the same custom finish and was very happy with the results. I think it cost around $130 and took 3wks, mind you that was just over 20yrs ago. Back then all the DE's came from Israel black and the custom finish guns were black ones pulled out of their box, stripped and a custom finish applied in Minn.

Yea I shouldn't spend money that I never use anymore. But money is not an issue to me.

Just curious, maybe as a prize gun to have, I might want to get one (someday), but is it hard to find a range that you can shoot 50AE loads? or you usually have a lower caliber conversion to shoot it?

2nd for gold. If you are going to refinish it why do something common?

Most outdoor ranges lets you shoot 50AE. I've shot mine up at Angeles a few times. I have a 44mag conversion, but most times that I take the DE out it's to shoot the 50.
