How I should keep my Beretta PX4 Storm Type F

Hey guys, I need some advice.

I currently have my 9mm Beretta with a 10+1, safety/decocker engaged. So if I was in a pinch, I'd just remove the safety and ready to roll.

I was reading on another thread that someon has the safety off, mag in. BUt that means you'd have to chamber that round.

Whats the best and most effective way of keeping a Beretta like mine. Is it dangerous to keep one in the chamber? More dangerous I should say.

    Thanks!

learn how to safely operate your pistol and get comfortable with that... then decide your best way.

Then keep doing what you're doing.

They are your guns and ultimately how you operate them should be based on what best serves you.

The safety/decocker on the Px4 Type F is very solid, it'll be very difficult to disengage it accidentally AND have the trigger pulled at the same time (ala cop who shot himself when his Glock's trigger was caught in his jacket pull string). There's also a firing pin block on the Px4 so it won't fire if you drop it from a great height.

Plus, the first shot is a long/heavy double action pull unless you manually cock the hammer, which you can only do after disengaging the safety (you can't carry it cocked and locked with safety on).

With this many safety already, I think it is pretty safe to chamber a round and engage the safety, and simply flip the safety off and be ready to fire.

Disclaimer: I don't claim to be an expert, I own the Beretta Px4 Storm 9mm Type F myself. You may want to ask a certified NRA instructor what would be their recommendation.

Do you the way I have it makes me more prepared? Or do you think the chambering of the round might be a better idea.

I recently went to one round chambered, safety on, while at home

Keep in mind, with the safety off, the first round that is chambered will be a DA shot, with a longer pull of the trigger...that's why many times at the range, i'll practice DA shots quite a bit with my Storm

I feel the DA first shot is somewhat of a safety in itself...you would have to be quite sure of what you are doing in order to pull that first squeeze, not like the subsequent hair trigger SA shots which would follow

I can pull the Px4, disengage the safety with my right thumb, while still having control of the firearm, pretty fast

I would be more comfortable with a round chambered/safety on/hammer down in one of my berettas vs round chambered in a 1911, revolver, or glock.

                  That's just me...

That long DA pull is a definitely a deliberate motion, good practice indeed.

None of my handguns have external safeties. I don't want to perform any extra steps to get into the fight if there's something going down. First thing to go when presented with a high stress life or death situation, fine motor skills are gone, your vision narrows, your heart starts pumping, your adrenaline dumps, and you may find yourself fumbling with what normally is a very deliberate and controlable act, like flicking off the safety.
I have one gun that has the option of a safety, it's in the decock configuration. I draw and the next thing I need to do is squeeze and that's it.
None of my guns will go off unless the trigger is pulled.

do you have the cocked, locked and ready to rock position?

I draw and squeeze and that's all I need to do. My CZ's are half cock, and Glocks are ready to go with a squeeze of the trigger.
                          No safeties but my finger.

Have you had to pull this option before?

Yep, my gun will not go off unless I pull the trigger. It's an obediant piece of steel, it has no mind of it's own and will not do anything unless I tell it so. I carry like that all the time. I'm a keep it simple stupid kind of guy. The less mechanical devices that keep me from sending rounds towards bad guy before he can send round towards me the better. That's one reason why I would never carry any of the XD line of guns. The grip safety.
