    Security-Six grip screw/bushing replacement

I have an older Ruger Security-Six (1544xxxx; 1978 vintage, 6" barrel) that the grip screw and the missing bushing need replacing. The original wood grips are still okay, however I'm open to replacing them with something else, (new or used).

I checked Hogue's web site and others but unsure if new grips come with screws. The pictures do not show attaching screws.

I did call Ruger about screw/bushing sometime back and was told they no longer have replacements. I didn't see anything at Home Depot or Lowe's that was viable either.

    Do grips come with screws/bushing?

    Thank you
    Kyle

Some do but not all. You might call Hogue and ask or check out the Ruger forum someone there might have extras they would sell or give you.

Most new grips come with screws and escutcheons.

For replacement parts to the original set, check with Numrich Gun parts, if you can't find it there, then you are truely SOL.

I sent a email to Hogue and a couple of others but no reply as yet. It's only been a couple of weeks.

I've had rubber Houge grips on my Security Six since 1987. Their rubber grips and, I think their wood grips, do not use the factory screws or bushings. Instead, they come with a proprietary screw and clamping devise that mounts on the butt of the grip. So, yes, Houge grips for the Security Six do come with a screw. Numrich has the OEM ferrules but not the screw in stock.

Thanks, I'll give Numrich a try again. Last time I looked they were sold out of grip screws, but that was a while back

I read that some had difficulty installing the Hogue grip. You encounter any problem/fit issue?

I installed it many moons ago. I've only taken it off a couple times and, even then, the last time was probably 17 years ago. So, I can't say for sure. But, if I can do it, it can't be that hard.

Thanks, CSA, I do understand the "many moons ago" syndrome. My old eyes and hands just don't work as they used to, so I pick my choirs carefully.

                  Thanks again

Hogue grips slide on from the bottom---they can be a little fussy to fit, but you should have no real problems. You do have to remove the cross-pin thats in the bottom of the frame---again not too difficult. I have a set of rubber Pachmeyer grips for a Ruger Security Six for sale (comes with grip screw)---they would fit someone who has larger hands. PM me if interested.

The first three years (serial # starting 150-) have a different grip frame shape than the all later (151-) series.

If yours is a 150- you will have a hard time finding grips that fit right.
There were some made but they are hard to find these days.
You may have to buy some later ones and modify as needed.

The serial number for mine is 1544-----so I "should" be okay but I have read that some folks still had issues. You would think it would not be that difficult to find a screw and bushing (nut) to suffice, but...
