My search for a 1911 appears to be coming to an end. I just wanted to ask all of my friends on calguns.net what they think of this gun. Good? Bad? Personally, I'm in lurve. Thanks in advance for your feedback.

I think they're great. You can't beat the price for what you're getting. IMHO I think it gives some kimbers a run for their money. Personally I'm a big SA fan so my opinions of it may be slightly biased but I think you scored a good one. I too am thinking of picking up a Loaded model (PX9609L). Let us know how you like it.

The Springfield Armory Loaded 1911 is great. I'm glad I bought one a couple of years ago. It's very accurate and you won't be disappointed.

I recently purchased an SA 1911 in 9mm. The trigger pull is a bit heavy for my liking but the gun shoots better then I can.

I think Springfield 1911's are the best value available today. They offer a life time warranty for crying out loud.

Make good use of the Loaded Coupon too. I purchased lots and lots of mags for half the price they sell for on the net. The SA banner was sold out though

I will echo the good comments from posters above about the Springfield loaded model...Take it from someone who shoots a lot and has MANY MANY guns, the springfield loaded is one of the best deals in the low-middle 1911 market. Of course there is the age old debate of Kimber v. Springfield, however, I for one am a BIG proponent of Springfield. Of course, a Kimber would serve you well also.

Oh, and as for the TRP Operator, a close friend has two of them he likes them so much.

Just a coupon that allows you to buy springfield accessories at a discounted rate with the coupon. It is nothing special, but the prices are pretty decent with the coupon (magazines, cases, cleaning stuff). But again, nothing special.

Well, as an owner of both a Loaded and a TRP Operator, I guess I should chime in.

BUY IT!!

As said, Springers are one of the best values out there for 1911's. Kimbers used to be better (before a lot of things changed)--now, you're paying for the name (and the Schwartz safety system--yuck!!--at least they're going back to the internal extractors). I've read lots of good things about Colts, but the one's I've seen have not been impressive, especially for the added prancing pony price tag.

Springfields may not be the best, but they're a damn good value. The Loaded's got all the features I like at a good entry price. Upgrade as needed.

My Operator's just plain nice. If you can withstand the iron maiden grips, it's a whole lot of gun. Takedown's a bit annoying, but it's a fine, fine piece. Dunno if it's the best pistol at it's price point (like the Loaded is), but I'm glad I bought it. Supposedly made to meet the FBI's accuracy requirements, too (1.5" at 25 yds.).

I disagree that the Springfields are not one of the best. In it's price catagory it has to be one of the finest. For my $700 I got a target grade, tight fitting, adj sight, stainless steel, and 100 percent reliable pistol. They are a great value. Plus I believe the Springfield Armory name is as iconic as Colt.

Actually, todays Springfield Armory is not the same Springfield Armory George Washington established and "made" US history. The original SA was shut down by the US department of defense in the late 60s. Than, in the 70s a man bought the rights to the name and is now running with it. The location of the new company/plant is not even the same place as the original. Dont get me wrong, I still admire and like the latest SA products. But most enthusiasts know the differance between the two companys and really love to have original pieces. I held a original WWI Springfield Armory 1911 just yesturday, I was in awe at the quality of this piece. The quality, fit and finish seemed superior to todays SA loaded 1911, and this was a 90 year old piece.

So today I finally had some free time to go to my dealer. He called up his distributor to ask about the price and availability and it turns out they're all on back order and the distributor hasn't had any since October of 2005

I recall having read a few posts on here by guys who were looking to buy some SA 1911s but were having a hard time getting ahold of any. What to do? I'm tempted to just put in my own order and accept the fact that it will come whenever it comes. I was also going to see if I could get someone on Gunbroker to ship one to the dealer but I don't want to dick him out of a profit because his prices are very good as it is and he's also a great chap. Suggestions?

I'd suggest browsing online gun classifieds like guns america or even the 1911 forums for anyone selling. I came across a Loaded 1911 in OD Green Armor Kote (PX9609L) on guns america, it's on its way as we speak. You never know what you might find. Although you may not see exactly what you want you will find plenty of neat 1911s out there.

I got mine off of guns america. I got the GI model for 400 bucks brand new. They were all back ordered when I was trying to pick mine up as well. This was about 4 months ago. I havent had any issues at all with gun borker or guns america deals thus far. I use them both quite a bit, especially when what im looking for cant be aquired by my usual dealer. The only thing to remember is to figure in the extra cost of shipping and the additional fee charged for out of state tranfers through some FFLs. Good luck
