Fire one and see if it wows you. Maybe the design is enough to wow you though. It's a good gun but I prefer a CZ for a full size metal 9mm DA/SA gun. And I think $600 has been the going rate for berettas for the past couple of years.**WTB: FNS-9, P07 or P09, Steyr M9A1, Canik Shark FC or Stingray. PM me w/offers**Comment

I was in the Navy when we transitioned to the M9. I really liked it and shot it pretty well. But...
Here we are years later. I have a couple 1911s but so far haven't really felt the "need" for the Beretta. Nice gun but not really much "wow" factor there."He is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog.
You are his life, his love, his leader. He will be yours, faithful and true, to the last beat of his heart.
You owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion."

If you want a DA/SA, try a used P226/229. Same money will get you a new SP2022.Originally posted by Highdeserthunterwhat else is out there for $600Comment

It's got a big grip. The SIG 2022 comes with different size backstraps. My wife likes hers.Originally posted by HighdeserthunterIs the Beretta too big for a petite wife?

OP - If you haven't shot either, they are both very common rentals at ranges. Go shoot both back to back and see which way you're leaning afterwards.
If I were in your dilemma... and I've shot both guns. I'd go for a 1911 first! It's a classic USGI fighting weapon; proven through both WWI & II, Korea, Vietnam, and numerous smaller theaters worldwide for over a 100 years! What more could you ask of a handgun in this day and age of technology and marketing driven one-ups-manship? And.. since I brought up each guns military service, most Iraq I & II, and Afghan GI's/vets I know hated the M9. Many even opted for alternatives like Glocks for their reliability.
I love the Beretta M9/FS, it's got gorgeous lines.. like a sexy woman or Italian sports car. I shoot it better than my current Glock 17. Looks wise; the 1911 is a Brutus... big and manly, heavy and thick.
But I love the 1911. It's not as accurate, but it's an arguably devastating round. And let's admit... it's a hand cannon that's incredibly fun to shoot. They are also one of those guns that has endless possibilities... like a GI Joe/erector set lots of accessories and possible upgrades.
There are 1911s in your price range, and Rock Island is a good brand of these lower priced "entry" 1911s... I've been eyeing one for about 6 months.
Good luck in your "secret" purchase, whichever route you choose.Last edited by Darryl Licht; 03-21-2014, 10:08 PM."Laws that forbid the carrying of arms...disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes. Depends on the store but I've seen them for $550. At bigger chain stores usually closer to $580 on their semi weekly sales.Originally posted by Highdeserthunter$530 to be exact on sale. Is this real on Sale they say You save $100 off
Could rent one at range if possible.Originally posted by HighdeserthunterI don't own any so I can't try one.
Alloy frame I believe.Originally posted by HighdeserthunterIs this all steel or Aluminum? Sorry I never had one.
Yes. M9 should be even a bit thicker than a 92FS because of the aluminum frame.Originally posted by HighdeserthunterIs the Beretta too big for a petite wife?

Sig2022 might be a good option if you don't mind polymer. Not sure if you could get a cz p07 for $600 OTD since it needs to be SSE.**WTB: FNS-9, P07 or P09, Steyr M9A1, Canik Shark FC or Stingray. PM me w/offers**Comment

Own or owned? Owned is past-tense... meaning you did and you no longer do own it. So which did you mean? I took you literally at "owned" and thought you were considering a 1911 or an M9.Originally posted by HighdeserthunterI already owned a 1911 SA, what do you mean is not as accurate you mean at 100yards?
What I meant about accuracy was personally I shoot my bros M9 better than my G17 I've owned for years at just about any range. I like the way its weighted vs my G17..."Laws that forbid the carrying of arms...disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes. Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed one.

Not sure how owning one has anything to do with deciding to purchase the other. They are completely different platforms. If you want or like the Beretta, buy it, regardless of whether or not you have a 1911."A vote is like a rifle; it's usefulness depends upon the character of the user." - Theodore RooseveltComment

OK... I was confused by that 1.Originally posted by HighdeserthunterSorry I meant I still own, but I also used to owned one many years ago.
You also mentioned if your petite wife would be able to handle it (someday when you reveal it...LOL), anyway... I wouldn't suggest it. It will be too big for a petite hand. Look to a single stack 9mm or even a .380 (9mm kurz)for her. IMO"Laws that forbid the carrying of arms...disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes. Sig, S&W, Colt, Ruger many small single stack (thinner grip) options out there. But ultimately who's gun will it be, and what's it's main purpose in your/her collection??? CCW? Home Defense? Plinking?
If your not a small man or don't have small hands, I doubt you'll enjoy the same 9mm as she will."Laws that forbid the carrying of arms...disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes.
