just bought a ruger single six .22

it comes with a long rifle and a mag cylinder. they look exactly the same except the long rifle is fluted. why cant you shoot long rifle in the mag cylinder. as in .38 and .357

first off CONGRATS !!!

but to answer your question....try to load it....the projectile of the WMR will go in...but you cant seat WMR into the LR cylinder

i have a single six...thats literally as old as me...my dad bought it the month i was born

i grew up shooting it and love it

i in turn used it to teach my kids

and FYI...22 WMR is a FANTASTIC bridge to 9mm with children or other new shooters. has just enuff more "pop" to graduate them...but not so much it intimidates them

It will but I dont recommend it. The Magnum case is thicker. The .22 LR case will swell/expand. Sorta like shooting a 9MM in a .40 SW (10MM) chamber.
I did it one day when I left the MAG cylinder on my Single six and forgot the LR cylinder. I was 300 miles from home in AZ shooting with my buddies. so why not? it worked but it trashed the brass. But not like its reused...

but try loading mag into LR....youll see the potential of the casing splitting..or swelling to point of not ejecting im sure

Awesome, I inherited a Single-Six from the 60's. I had no idea about the cylinders for .22 WMR. Do you guys think it would be safe to buy one of these cylinders and shoot it out of the old gun? It seems very well built and sturdy for a .22 caliber firearm.

The answers above are correct but I want to point out that both of my cylinders are fluted-an older Single Six from the sixties-#5154xx three screw. Also, both cylinders have identical machined hand etched last three digits of the serial numbers inscribed on their front faces.

3 screw as well, i was told its a '71 and never went in for "repair", both cylinders fluted as well
