Are a married couple distinct handgun buyers?

Wife and I are getting into handguns. I've spaced out purchases at 30 day intervals (M&P 40, second M&P 22), but it just occurred to me that the second 22 is for my wife and a 9mm (not listed, above) is also for my wife. The obvious conclusion is that as handgun owners husband and wife are entirely separate and the purchase intervals, etc. are in no way connected. Is this the correct assumption?

Yes. My wife and I each purchased 9mm in Feb (same day) and just purchased/DROS'd 2 .45ACPs yesterday.

Correct. My expectations are very different than my wife's when it comes to firearms. HER: looks, fit, recoil. HIM: reliability, capacity, stopping power.

Depending on the STORE, sometimes you need to be careful with who is buying, who is paying, who really owns the gun, etc. when you are both present and buying a gun.

You don't want to give any impression of a straw type purchase.

If they are both capable of buying a gun.. a straw purchase really cannot exist in their situation... He gives her her money? She gives him his money?

Uneducated shops sometimes think it's a straw purchase.. but that doesn't make it one.

Ummm, relax. First, there are only purchases and straw purchases; there are no "straw type" purchases.

California is kind enough to see spousal financial resources as community property. You know: "What's mine is hers, and what's hers is mine hers."

The Feds recognize the ability to purchase firearms as gifts to third parties. See ATF FM 4473, Item 11a, Instructions:
You are also the actual transferee/buyer if you are legitimately purchasing the firearm as a gift for a third party.

If a "STORE" doesn't understand this, then educate them or get a new store.

                      Cheers.
