    What is the XD?

I know that it is a cool well pointing gun with a lot of safties and the .45 has a 13 round mag (free state).
But is it anay thing more? Like can it be droped in: sand, mud, water, or run over by a truck the way a Glock or HK can? Are there articles anaywere about what it can actually do. American Rifleman mag seem to like almost everything.

Either Guns or Guns and Ammo put it through a torture test of somewhere around 20,000 rounds and the only thing that broke was the little cocked indicator on the back. They froze it in ice, dipped it in water, mud, ran it over multiple times with a truck, and it functioned flawlessly.

The only thing people are complaining about is rust on the slides. This can easily be fixed with Springfield's new coating, duracoat, or a stainless steel slide.

The finish starting with the new .45ACP model is suppose to be a lot better. I've seen one and the finish looks just slightly different to me.

Supposedly they threw it off a cliff, froze it in a block of ice, submerged it in mud. You know the typical daily life of any handgun.

Well is any gun anything other than something that is cool, points well, and has safties?

They've placed the XD under the same torture test as the Glocks. I forgot which website featured it but the guys on the Glock forums have discussed it too. You may find a link on a Glock forum somewhere. I personally like the XD better than the Glock, for me it fits better in my and and like the previous post said, it points very well. I don't hate the Glock its just that the XD works better for me. Even though I already own a XD9 I still plan on picking up an early generation Glock 17 and 22 in the future. You simply can't argue with the tried and true reputation of a Glock. Thats what they have over the XD....time and the experience.

Go for a Glock 21. I don't dig those roll pins.
