Lasermax better price. They are both good. Check with your county though, I know oc does not allow lasers

It's county by county I think. You should be fine in sac county.

NOTHING needs a laser. if you want a demonstration, take it outside during the day and point it at something. you won't see it, nevermind you'd have to shoot it a lot to get a feel for how close it is to point-of-aim. I purposely bought an lc9 without the laser because it costs less and doesn't have extra useless crap on it. lasers are for movies, not real life.

I prefer Crimson Trace because of the location and usability of the button. A laser isn't a must have but what it does is give you an edge in the right circumstance and I have CTs on several of my handguns.

Oc doesn't have a laser ban? I looked and could not find anything? Aside from that, I'm no expert. I was looking at the low light classes. Seemed really appropriate.

In my experience, Crimson Trace laser grips were brighter than the LaserMax ones. Ever so slightly, but pretty noticeable when side by side.

I just like the way the CTC lasers activate, so there's less fumbling around with an on/off switch.

There is no substitution for effective point shooting and that should be the primary focus for anyone training for CCW. That being said lasers do have a place. For one, in low light or darkness. They also make a great training aid to let you know if you're jerking the trigger or flinching. Get good at point shooting and let the laser be a bonus not a crutch.

                    Viridian Green Lasers

In my opinion with the increased visibility of the green laser and the ECR feature this is the option I would go with. The ECR (enhanced combat readiness) feature is pretty slick. Basically, you insert you firearm into the holster with the laser on and the holster turns the laser off for you. When you draw, the laser is automatically turned on for you by the holster. No change of grip, no change in your draw. Check out their site, they have videos showing it in action. A company called multi holsters makes kydex versions of the holster as well.

I've been debating wether or not I want to put a laser on my Shield, but decided to do the APEX trigger kit first.

A serious consideration for CC is the availability of holsters. Numerous holster makers explicitly support a CT on the Shield, and whether or not another brand will fit or if other holsters are available for other brands is an open question. These are two of my favorites and both support a Shield with a CT installed.

I had a CT laser on my LCR357 but didn't like the poor quality grip but the laser beam is slightly brighter then the Lasermax. Ended up taking the CT back and put on the Lasermax on again with the original hoag grips.
