    1911.. Oil or grease?

Being a revolver shooter until today, I never worried about what lubricant to keep on hand for the slide on my new 1911. I went to the range in Manteca today to try out the new Range Officer. I talked to a few other shooters as to how to keep the pistol perform up to par. So for lubrication, Oil or grease? I shot the first box of bullets through the new gun today. "I can't believe I waited this long to buy a 1911" lol What do you recommend?

    1911.. Oil or grease?

Yes. You can use either oil or grease. The lower the cost the better.

Many people will recommend their high dollar miracle lube, but all work basically the same for range use.

You can also do a site search of lubes, oils, and or grease. You will find many arguments on which one is better.

Since you are local to the Bay Area, you may want to try a local grease from Hayward. http://www.jardinescustom.com/jardin...emegrease.html

Oil what rotates and grease what slides.

      I use both.

Use oil for parts that rotate (e.g. slide stop to barrel link interface) and grease for parts that slide (e.g. slide-to-frame rails).

As far as lubes are concerned, I've found that Weapon Shield CLP and grease work really well.

I prefer TW25 for grease (rails, slide stop, barrel hood and bushing), and been using 10-8's lube recently. Before that just used Break Free CLP. Just work the action a few times to distribute it, and wipe it down before holstering (if you carry) or put it on something that doesn't like weapons lubricants. Microfiber couches are not fans...

As what was said above: Oil what rotates and grease what slides.

I do the same with my 1911.
For grease, I had a sample of Militec-1 grease and that works great! Been using Slip2000 EWL oil for the other rotating parts.

Any decent grease will work - even grease that you may use for an M1 Garand...

Consult your manual. Not all manufacturers recommend the same method of lubing.

I use a mixture of high temp wheel bearing grease and Break Free LP.
Been using this for years, works great.

Oil for springs (the trigger assembly) and silicon grease for the slide.

An oily rag to wipe down everything including the mags too.

You can buy silicon grease anywhere. And sewing machine oil or any lite grade works well for the springs.

I get all my gun lube from Amazon. Currently using M-Pro-7 and Slip EWG.

I was using XF7 grease on my 1911 but it was slowing the slide down and making it a little sluggish. Switched to M-Pro 7 LPX and it is smooth as silk now and has been feeding all ammo reliably. When I was using the grease I had problems with one brand of HP ammo.
