    686-no dash, round butt?

I was thinking about new grips for my 2-3/8" 686- no dash.

It obviously has a round butt frame, but ive read several places that the no dash models were all square butts. am i missing something?

Apparently on the 686 no dash, the 4" barrel and longer got the square-butt, the shorter barrel got the round-butt.

Probably an advantage for you, as there are more aftermarket grips available for the RB.
Are you thinking wood or rubber? Perhaps a Crimson Trace laser?

Just bought a 686 no dash with a four inch barrel at the gun show. This one is a round butt. Is this common?

Yep.... a little Mothers while watching the boob tube will do the trick. Just be aware that buffing it seems to attract finger prints, etc.,
so a bit more maintenance will be required to keep it looking awesome...

I've tried a couple of wood Hogue's and a Ken Ahrends. The Hogue is definitely a larger grip, better for a large hand. A lot of people like Ahrends (middle pic), I do too.
He makes a number of different styles. They will fit a medium and smaller hand better than the Hogues.

        Good Luck of your search!

According to the SCS&W there was a Lew Horton special in 2 1/2" barrel round butt made in 1984. My guess would be that your revolver is pretty rare.

Serial number puts about 1985 to early 1986.

Fishslayer might be spot on. Call Lew Horton at 1 800 446 7866. Provide them with the serial number they will tell you if it was one of their guns. They've always been helpful in the past when I called them.

              Good Luck!

Well that's cool... Don't you love it when that happens?

It will look great with a new wood Hogue grip... and maybe you should take some Mother's and an old rag to it!
