    USP .40C or sig p239

    narrowed potential conceal carry guns:

    HK USP .40 compact

    Or

    Sig P239

If you have insight on either, please share.

HK all day. It's the only way to shoot .40. Feels like a 9mm. The action is so smooth and personally I love the decocker/safety configuration. Super accessible, very intuitive. It's also a touch lighter than the Sig.

ive never shot an hk... but i must say shooting .40 out of a p229 is awesome. my least favorite round, too...

i would go with the p239 just because of my familiarity with the controls

The USPc is also slightly slimmer and will give you 10 rounds (12 in a free state) vs. the 239's 7 round mag.

My advise will always be biased when it comes to HK's, so take it with a grain of salt.

I have a H&K USPc in .40 S&W. I think the USPc is a good gun, but have no experience with the sig and so can't really compare them.

            Both are good

I happen to have both of these guns - the H&K USP compact in .40 and the Sig P239 in 9mm. They are both good guns - accurate, reliable, and compact enough for concealed carry. Both of mine also have the same trigger system - double action/single action with decocker.

The USP has a double stack magazine with 10 round capacity (in California), while the Sig P239 has a single stack magazine with 8 round capacity (9mm) or 7 round capacity (.40 caliber). So if you are capacity-sensitive you'll favor the USP. The USP seems slightly thicker than the Sig in both slide and grip, however, so it is a little harder to conceal.

I'd say the one you favor is a matter of personal preference, and there is no clear winner in a comparison of the two.

My buddy has an HK, we have shot it a lot. My assessment is that it is an overpriced hunk of crap. I would go with the Sig.

I like the Sig. What about a P239 in .357 sig, nice compromise between 9mm an .40 cal...

I much prefer metal guns to plastic ones. I have two P239s (9mm and .40). My nephew has an HK. For me, there's no comparison. My advice: get the P239.

I used to work for a well known Laser company and had to test fire a ton of different guns. These are both great guns and you will be happy either way. I appreciate the rounded edges of the Sig as a carry gun and like it's decocker better than the HK's, but overall the HK USP .40C to me is everything a gun should be. Get the HK, you won't regret it.

you can get all three barrels as long as you started out with a 40 or 357. The 40 mags will work for the 357 rounds but not the other way around. For the 9mm barrel you need 9mm mags. Now you have 3 guns in one.

An apples to apple comparison would be a USP40 vs P229.

Anyways, either a USP or a P239 would be a good choice. I personally prefer Sigs myself but that's just me.

No reliability issues, but it seems to be a very difficult piece to shoot accurately. I would just chalk it up to shooter error, but I've seen probably a dozen or so people try it and the consensus seems to be the same...

Far too much recoil in comparison to competing models, difficult to group as well when compared to other compact .40's. On top of that more expensive than many of the competing models.

Really bummed, as the grandson of German immigrants and seeing how finely the manufacturing on the piece seems to be. Needless to say, I really wanted to like it especially after shooting a different friend's .45 a few years back and loving it.

The LEM trigger would probably help with accuracy.
