However, it could mean just that - that I have not seen the issues yet but they do happen.

For safety, I bought some leverevolution ammo to use but have not gotten around to it.

FWIW, when I used my revolver ammo on my lever action rifle, the recoil was VERY minimal and it was a fun day for sure.

Regarding shooting 150 rds of .44mag in an afternoon, good luck! I could do 50 rds, which I did once, maybe a few more, but that's about it for me. Maybe I need to man up more
I see that Hornady does sell their Leverevolution style bullets for reloading by man 34 cents each is too rich for me. SWC are supposed to be fine with properly seated primers.

As a followup .. a lever action 357 carbine is also on my short list because, well heck you can't just have one gun for that caliber and reloading another caliber can keep it within my budget.

But has anyone experienced ammo compatibility between revolvers and lever action guns. I recall a Hickock45 video where he did have some compatibility using his reloads and had to change projectiles. Don't know how common that is. Any comments??

Maybe with wadcutters or semi wadcutter, but not with round nose.

I used to have a Marlin lever in .357 mag and shot the same reloads in both revolver and rifle, no issues.
Tube magazines are only problems with pointed bullets, most revolver bullets are soft point or hollow point or lead waddcutters of some sort.
I shoot my same reloads in my revolvers and rifles.
If your not set on a lever gun, look at the Ruger 77/357 and 77/44 rotary magazine bolt action rifles.
Both are excellent choices and good companions for your revolvers.

Sometime in 1960s, maybe 1950s. LAPD and other police departments "neutered" revolvers so they can only be fired in DAO mode. When I was a rookie lawman we had revolvers. I worked on two different departments the one with neutered revolvers had a much smaller incident of AD/ND then the one with DA/SA revolvers.

ElDub, I think you will love the .357! My favorite gun is my Ruger GP100 in .357, 4" barrel, in stainless. In SA actin that gun is nuts on and far more accurate than I am! I have taken down bowling pins at 50 yards or clays on the hillside at Burro Canyon.

Load that GP100 with 180 grain rounds from Buffalo Bore or Remington and you could take care of anything in the California wild country. By the way, I have found those 2 loads to be the MOST ACCURATE out of my gun, but they tend to get a little expensive to use for fun target practice. Back when I bought it, it was a toss-up for me between the S&W 686 or the Ruger. The Ruger was $95 less so that is where I ended up putting my money. No regrets at all.

Another advantage of the .357? You can shoot "cheap" .38spl out of it. Also it makes a good gun to introduce your newbie friends to handguns as they will not have the recoil of the .357 as they learn.

Them rotary mags can be really finicky about what ammo they will feed.

Good to know. Pretty set on a lever gun. Have a couple of bolt action in other calibers. Wanting a lever gun just comes from growing up with TV cowboys shows

hadn't thought about NDs .. never hear about them with revolvers any more.

I'll look hard but not sure that I'll see a reason to spend the extra on a 686 too. The GP100 is high on my list.

Yes, that's a big plus too my glocks, even in 9mm 'can' be difficult, at least it was of a couple of new shooters. A revolver with 38spl shoot be a light shooter.

SA revolvers were just an evolutionary step. From black powder guns to cartridge firing guns. Da guns were next in the evolution. The reason that SA guns are still sold is for fun. Ie cowboy guns that closely mimic the original guns. Single loading with non-swinging cylinders was just part of the evolutionary step.

I'm not sure there Are any SA revolvers that are not 1800s era replicas or designs (yes I know about ruger red/Blackhawks!)

I like a lot of revolvers, but I am particularly fond of S&W N frames myself. My S&W model 57 is nice, but ammo is rare. Good luck with that Ruger GP 100.

I owned the gp100. Get the 686. That being said, I loved it.

When I bought my revolver, I felt that GP100 and 686 were pretty equal so I put the 686 and the GP100 side by side and picked each one up one at a time to see which felt better in my hand...GP100 won to my surprise because I wanted the Smith. Very happy with my GP100 and I saved some $$ too. Cant go wrong

Looks like a lotta love for those GP100s out there!

Certainly haven't ruled out the S&W686.

                                Thanks All
