Its great! I had a redhawk, and now a Super Redhawk. Tough to beat for reliability. You wont be sorry if you buy one. You didn't mention the caliber, but my first was in a 357 mag. The SR is in 44 mag. If you find one in 357 don't let it get away from you.

No hijack intended, but would like to hear from 44 SRH fans too that have comparisons from personal experience with S&W 629. Getting ready to buy my first wheel gun for wilderness protection. If anyone's out there...SRH ALAKSKAN vs. S&W 629 4"??

Had one in .44 mag and loved it. Never had a chance to shoot it much due to the high cost of ammo. Built like a tank.

I have two. One is as 41 and the other is a 44. They are built like a tank and almost as heavy. Good shooters.

Before switching over to the Freedom Arms 454 Casull revolver, I had a stainless 5 1/2" Ruger Redhawk in 44 Mag.---big tough revolver---liked it a lot---very accurate

What critters are you worried about?
I picked up a S&W 460V a couple years ago for a "do everything" gun. So far I've developed loads that will kill anything in North America and most in Africa.
If you load your own, you won't find a more versital round. From rabbits to Grizzly and everything in between.
I've sold all my 44's 'cept one.

I own one, acquired 2nd hand. This is the companion to my deep woods Marlin 1894 .44 mag. I like the way it fits my hand, the balance, the solidity. I like it much better than the S&W 629 that I have. It points naturally and gives me a feeling of stout reliability. I don't shoot it a lot but it is one of four guns that I actually rely on for personal protection, out of a stable of about 50 guns.

Will it fit you like it fits me? Maybe, maybe not. Will yours have the same nice trigger? Impossible to say. But I will say, it's worth checking out, and as they are no longer made by Ruger, it's likely to be a good investment.

I've got one in .44 and rather than blow a bunch of smoke up your butt I'll give you a real review that I am sure will get some comments from the too macho for the room crowd here. It is nothing more than a novelty at best. Kicks like a mule and if you aren't resting the barrel on sand bags it's all over the place.

When I entertain people at the range everybody always wants to shoot it, but they usually hand it back after 3-6 shots. I personally usually only shoot about 12 shots out of it before I am just done with it.

It's very clunky, as most Rugers are, especially in comparison to a Colt or S&W wheel gun. On the positive side it looks the biz and when bench shooting you can reach out to 100yds with only about 8-10" of drop which is pretty damn good for the size of bullet you are sending downrange.

I've learned from my range experiences mentioned above that to keep new shooters interested in the sport to not let them shoot the .44 first as it tends to make first time shooters shy away, but if I let them shoot a super smooth and accurate model like the King Cobra 6" 357 then they really get into the whole event and take a much more avid interest.

It took some time (and top dollar) but I found a 4" barrel Redhawk. It's a beefy gun! .44 is a great caliber, very versatile if you reload.

Non super Redhawks are hard to find.

Happycamper, you talking about the short barreled Alaskan? I don't think of Redhawks as novelty items.
