    9mm Ammo for LC9

Any recommendations on 9mm ammo for an LC9. The good self-defense ammo is a bit pricey for regular practice.

I have several hundred rounds of 115gn ball that should be good for practice - any other recommendations including practice ammo and self-defense ammo?

    Thanks,

    Bruce

You don't need 1000 rounds of your carry ammo. Buy a box, shoot a magazine or two so you know how it shoots. I keep my defense ammo in all of my magazines, but when I go to the range I rake my LAX Reloads.

I like Freedom Munitions over LAX because you don't have to pay tax on Freedom Munitions. Last time I bought 500 rounds I paid 23 cent per round. They were running a promotion but I don't remember what it was. Good ammo.

I disagree with billofrights. Assuming this is a carry piece, buy a case of good self defense ammo and run through it. $300 for a case of SD ammo is a small price to pay to be certain your new gun and chosen ammo function flawlessly together. If the you or the gun doesn't like that ammo, sell it and try another.

        Check out Federal HST 147gr.

        Good luck!

^^^What he said. I prefer federal's hst or hydra-shok ammo for sd round.

I like Speer Gold Dots. I like 147s. They also offer "short barrel" variants.

            Carbon DPX is nice too.

I have a middle road on this. Find the SD ammo you want (no benefit in the $2/rnd hyped up stuff, Fed HST is a great choice) Shoot enough of it that you're 100% confident, THEN shoot a mag or two of it monthly just to make sure it always runs. For the rest of your practice and training find a round that matches the weight and ballistics of your SD round.

For example, in .40 I chose 180gr Fed HST. For practice, Fed American Eagle 180gr matches the ballistics very closely. SD rounds are going to shoot and feel just like my practice rounds.

I've added in shooting a lot of 9mm for fun, but I go back to the above for serious training.

I generally run factory reloads through my LC9 and other guns. As far as a SD load, I run standard pressure 124 grain Golden Sabers through my LC9. I put 100 rounds through her, mostly rapid fire.

If you want something a little hotter for practice, Fiochi makes a 115 grain round spec'd at 1250 fps I believe.
