    Shoulder Holsters for Glock 17?

Is the 17 too big to go with a shoulder holster?

I personally don't think so but I'd like to hear some opinions

What are some good reccomendations for a shoulder holster you guys are running?

    Thanks!

I've done a ton of research, and talked to many people. I had my CCW in Washington with a .357 in a nylon harness. I think that that Galco harness in the link is the bees knees when it comes to a shoulder rig. The angle is a big deal. I'll buy one with my next purchase.

        Depends on your frame size.

If you're a big man, should be no problem.

There's also a new Alessi model, if the budget can stand it. ($225)

For larger handguns (and to address concerns about muzzling everyone behind you) they do make vertical shoulder holsters that position the muzzle pointing down. Galco offers one for their shoulder systems: http://www.galcogunleather.com/vhs-h..._445_1331.html

This arrangement does let guys with smaller builds conceal large handguns, including large revolvers, so a Glock 17 should be an easy fit.

                Glock rig

Carried Galco Miami Classic for years as a LEO. Also holds spare mags and cuff if needed.
Used with Glock 21. Can also buy separate holsters for different weapons

**edit** The 17 will do just fine in a shoulder holster. I've tried shoulder holsters for most guns that I've carried. Off the top of my head - S&W Shield, Colt Cobra, S&W 66-3, Sig 239, Sig 226, Sig 220, CZ 75b, 1911s (4-5" aluminum or steel), Glock 22, and some others I'm sure I've forgotten.

As useless as they are here in southern California I still have a soft spot for shoulder holsters. I've tried a ton of them. I think I still have probably 8-10 of them in a box. Of all the ones I've tried there are definitely some I recommend over others.

Andrews Monarch - Expensive, but absolutely the best I've used. Very comfortable, wide straps, cross the back strap to keep the gun in place. Definitely my go-to shoulder holster. I highly recommend Andrews Leather.

Alessi Bodyguard - Fantastic holster. It isn't a solid as the Andrews, but it is comfortable and easy to wear. The pull through snaps are great, and the harness doesn't move very much once you have it set. I think I own more of these rigs than any of the other ones. I've carried a 1911, CZ, and K-frame in Alessi rigs.

Garrity Royal Flush - Decent harness, not a great one. I love the way they do the horizontal mag carrier. And it was one of the only holsters where the belt tiedowns actually worked for me. Most other companies make tiedowns too short for my torso. Not my favorite, but I would give it a recommendation.

Mitch Rosen Stylemaster - One of the nicest shoulder rigs on the market. Very comfortable, very stable, and very very sturdy. Somewhat on the expensive side, but you get a seriously well built holster with great hardware and hand boning. I highly recommend the stylemaster. I don't own one anymore simply because someone offered me an obscene amount of money for it with a gun I sold them.

Del Fatti - I highly recommend anything Matt makes, but he's stopped taking on work until he gets through the last six months of backlog. If you want one of the nicest holsters available I would get on his list. Be warned though, his work will make you never want to try another galco holster.

My next trial run will probably be a Highdesertleather shoulder holster. They appear to have an interesting design that could be very very comfortable.

If you want something off the shelf I would go with a desantis over the galco. They're around the same price, but the desantis has much wider straps and tends to be more stable.

If time is a factor there are off the shelf options, but given the meager savings of going with something off the shelf, I would go with one of the above makers. A good solid holster is hard to beat and makes carrying the gun much more comfortable.

No it isn't too big. They made shoulder holsters for the G17 when it first came out in the mid 1980's. All the big holster makers should offer at least one. Bianchi and Safariland should each have one. I think Blackhawk makes one also.

I have a Bianchi Tuxedo holster system. They are the lower priced model of shoulder holster.

I had one of these waaaaaay long ago with the speed break for my H&K P7M8. VERY concealable, accessible in the car while driving, and comfortable.

Galco Miami classic would be my other choice. What you can conceal depends on your body size.
