Newbie roster question

Hi all, thanks for all the great work done here in educating everyone.

I'm interested in a 9mm CZ-75BD. There are plenty for sale online with 16 rd mags and model # 91130. The CA roster approved gun is 75 BD (Black) 01130.

If I were to ask for the gun to be shipped WITHOUT the magazines and purchased 10 rd mags myself, would this be legal or is the fact that the model #s don't match an issue? From what I can tell the ONLY difference is the magazine that is included.

Since the model # does not match, it won't be processed as a handgun listed on the Roster.

The exact model listing has to match.

If you find that model locally and do a face to face transfer it doesn't have to be on the roster.
I know, pretty crazy.

Unfortunately, when a gun is listed with the exact SKU number you cannot just remove the magazines. The only exception that I know of is some Springfield Armory SKU-s that add a "P" (or "L") at the end of the approved SKU and are still acceptable because the extra letter is just package designator.

In your case it's best to find the exact model that is on the roster and avoid all the complications. If you're in the hurry, you can always use the SSE process, but it's a bit trickier and you have to talk to *both* your local store to ensure they have the parts and are willing to do SSE *and* to the online retailer to ensure they will ship an off-roster gun to CA (some won't).

I think I heard buds wont ship it to Cali. I also PMed you with some info, The info in this thread is not totally correct. The 9 stands for std cap, and the 0 stands for restricted 10 rd cap. It is the same item number except for the first number.

You HAVE TO confirm with the local store before ordering to make sure your interpretation matches store's. It's up to the store to make this call as they would be the ones entering into the DROS system that the item in the box matches the one on the list.

Additionally, due to the recent legislation, it's not certain what would happen to the non compliant magazines even if the store decided to accept the SKU as valid. Some very respectable FFL-s with SSE as core of their business won't even block the magazines to make them compliant, but will instead just throw them on a pile until it's sorted out.

While true that info on these boards is not complete, I would strongly encourage the OP to talk to the local FFL and use them as a starting point in the whole transaction.

^^ This... And the seller. Some sellers will not ship to CA even if the model IS on roster.

Understood. Spoke with the FFL--they are willing to do the transaction as they say first 4 digits indicate same model sans mags. Would be purchasing from Bud's online so I will call them prior to order to see what their policy is re. shipping to CA for non compliant.
