suggestions on some ccw handguns

Hi guys

I'm looking on opinion on what to buy or use for ccw. I own a SA Loaded 1911 and a glock 23. I want to ccw my glock 23 but not my 1911 as it's too expensive and heavy. The handguns I'm thinking of buying but not sure if off list handguns can be used for ccw are.

Walther ppq- love this hangun ever since I shot it. Been trying to buy one but as everyone knows it's an off list handgun and usually sells for 750-850. Since I didn't really get to test it out other than the 5 rounds the nice guy let me put through the pipe, I'm not sure if it's small enough to be a ccw firearm. I would like to make it work just based on how well it performed.

XDM- Again off list and expensive in CA but one hell of a firearm. I still like the feel and performance of the ppq better and I liked how Xdm felt (like a 1911, which I prefer the feel of one) so I would put it slightly above the glock. I like that the Xdm comes in all sizes and should be a nice carry weapon. I didn't really like the xd's. They feel good in the hands but not enough to justify it over my glock. The XDm has a lot more going for it and If I were to get a SA striker it would have to be the Xdm.

Kimber ultra carry- I love 1911's. I just feel like i'm holding an extension of my body. They are really comfortable to shoot and the smaller sizes are easy to carry. Price is north of $950 so good god! If it was ever used in self defense I could kiss it goodbye.

A Snub-nose - revolvers are extremely reliable and can be concealed very well. Down side is the # of rounds and kinda hard to find. If I were to get one, it would be chambered in 38 special or .357 that can also fire 38

Does anyone suggest anything? I have the money but south of 1,000 would be nice. Also wish we could list more than 3 on the ccw application. oh well

I previously thought my PPQ was going to be my CCW sidearm, but after placing it in a IWB holster, I'm reconsidering. Although the weight is good, much lighter than my M11-A1. But the grip is chunky and prints.

I'm looking at the newly announced Walther CCP.

Their single stack PPQ little brother. Whether we're going to be able to SSE this delayed blowback pistol is another question.

If not. P224, G26, MP9 Shield are on my list.

My CCW renewal is coming up and addition to the CZ PCR and Sig P229 9mm, I am going to add a PPQ 9mm to the list as well. The size of the PPQ is very close to the PCR and p229. In fact the IWB holster for the P229 fits the PPQ with a little room to spare so until the holster I ordered for the PPQ arrives I Am going to use the same holster for both the P229 and PPQ.

G23 is a good choice for sure.

Curious though, why are you concerned about the price? Is it really because of the thought of losing it if you were ever involved in a shooting? If so, spend the money on what you are most comfortable with and forget about what it costs. Are you going to put a price tag on your life?

I would recommend a Heckler & Koch P7M8 for its slimness but they have become virtually collectibles--and starting at $1500 used. I know it will be on my LTC, if I ever get one.

If you have your LTC then there is very little to worry about as long as you don't "break the rules".

Budget is definitely one thing to take into consideration but don't let the thought of having it taken away persuade you from carrying what you are most comfortable with.

I plan on mostly carrying my Glock26. Since you have a 23, why not get a 27? The mags that you have for your 23 will also work in a 27, the trigger and controls would be consistent. I know it's a bit thick but if you don't have any problems concealing your 23, a 27 will be a cake walk.

If it's a justified shooting then you shouldn't worry about having your gun be out of your possession for an extended period of time.

Also, if you base the value of your life on the cost of a handgun for the sole ASSUMPTION that it might be taken for an indefinite period of time then you need to reevaluate your reasons for getting a CCW in the first place.

this example has nothing to do with ccw's but When bullet button were new, friends and I were driving back from a range. cops pulled us over 30 secs after we left and going downhill. (it was at burro canyon). He didn't really have a reason to pulls us over and at the time I was young and stupid. He asked to see the guns and went crazy over my ar15 with the bullet button. Long story short, his supervisor came and let us go, but man did I learn.

Your ccw weapons will be listed on your permit which means they are gtg.

If you biggest concern about having a ccw is having one taken away that was expensive, then you should probably rethink why you want to carry.

If you've already got a G23 and are comfortable and competent with it, why not carry that, or maybe scale down to a G26/27 model? I have a G27 and it carries, conceals, and shots very well...

Bersa BP9
Beretta Nano
XD-S
Diamondback DB9

All very slim and small 9mm carry guns. If you are use to Glocks and their trigger like me then the Bersa is a great choice.
