    Browning Hi Power Target Model

Back in 87, purchased a Browning Hi Power 9mm. Legal gun bought thru dealer.
Have seen a Browning Hi Power 9mm Target model and want one, badly!
Seems that only way to get one , as a Cal. resident is to buy one from another Cal. resident?? or, is that even too loose a transaction for a couple of law abiding Cal residents?

    Thank you for any help!

    Welcome to Cal Guns!

There are several legal ways to get that handgun.

    1. Buy one from a private party face to face. Off roster handguns are exempt when transferred by private parties.

    2. If you have a vertical relative that lives out of state, they can Ship FFL to your FFL and you do the normal DROS form and wait 10 days as usual. Gift guns from relatives are also Exempt from the Roster. With a gift letter.

    3. Find an FFL who can do a single. Shot exemption. (See sticky top of page). Have the gun shipped to them. SSE are exempt from the roster as well.

Nice choice...I love my standard late 70s BHP.

Call up EBR works and see if they do High Powers. http://www.ebrwebstore.com/

They have been suggested many times by many different people around these parts.

If you're referring to a Browning Hi-Power GP Competition, you have a problem. The barrel is threaded for the retaining nut for the compensator weight with front sight which makes it an assault weapon in California unless you install a bullet button.

Unlike on a compensated 1911, you can not permanently attach the compensator nut on a GP Competition to remove that evil feature or you would not be able to remove the barrel for cleaning.

"You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means."
"What we get away with isn't usually the same as what's good for us"
"An extended slide stop is the second most useless part you can put on a 1911"

"While Ruger DA revolvers may be built like a tank, they have the aesthetics of one also,
although I suppose there are a few tanks which I owe an apology to for that remark"

              ^^^ Good stuff, Redcliff.

Unless anyone can figure a way around that obstacle... seems you are limited to the Hi Power Standard with the optional low-profile target sights,
adjustable for both windage and elevation. On roster, I do believe.
