    CCW- What to get.....

since there is now a chance that San Degians will actually be able to obtain a CCW I have a question. What to buy. I love my Sig 226 SA/DA in 9mm but i assume that will be to big to carry. What do you current CCW folks recommend?

Lots of threads about what people want to carry. Here's one of them:

            Shield or XDs all year.

In the winter months, a full size 1911 or Glock 19/23 will work under a jacket.

The fate of the wounded rest in the hands of the ones who apply the first dressing.

I decided on the Shield in 9mm over the XDs.

I like my Sig P239/9. Same operating controls as my P245 & my P220. Some will criticize the P239 as too heavy, with too little capacity. A good holster/belt along with a spare mag in the off side pocket will fix that.

                Good luck!

This is just me. No brand wars or caliber wars here. I pretty much like all guns.

I fist bought a G26 when I got my permit. I loved it and still have it. But right away after carrying it everyday, I learned that it was not as small as I first thought once you have it on you every day.

Fell into a crazy deal on a used PM9. Different trigger but so thin and light. With practice, accurate as the G. Carried it several years. You would actually forget you had it. Mainly DeSantis pocket holster or 5.1 holster shirt.
Scary, but after a year of carrying, pocket lint, etc. pulled it out at Firing Line and it shot every time.

Everyone had to have a Shield. Several of my retired LE buddy's got them and after shooting them, I agreed it is a fine firearm. Peer pressure and grass is greener, I sold the PM9 and SSE a Shield, mags and had over 900.00 in it. Yay.
Carried it for a month but the first weekend, I knew it was going to be a short lived affair. Sold it to a guy at Church at a loss. No one would pay 900 of course.

All I can find locally are 2 tone PM9's and I want a black black. So when supply and price is better, I'll get one and be good.
I don't want a CW or anything else, I know a PM9 works for me.

In the wait, one of the same guys also bought an XDs in .45 and let me babysit it for several weeks. I truly LOVED it and still do. But, it's too large for ME. when I get xtra money, I may buy one. It made me laugh to shoot it because it was so smug. Point, shoot, pop, hit, repeat.

I'm a huge guy. 6'4" and over 350 and could likely CCW a LAW and get away with it. But in very happy with the PM9.

Round count, I was taught by my LE friends and at some classes I've taken that if your mag holds 5 or 15, you always carry a spare mag. Always. So I do.

Renting is good, finding some friends that have CCW size guns is better. Use thier holsters etc to see how it feels sit, walk, sit in a car, drop your pants to simulate using a public head, etc.

I don't think there are "wrong" choices, just different opinions. And there is no "best" it's what works for you.

Us civilians have to get used to carrying. The experience LE folks have done it for so long, they can't understand what the fuss is all about I think. We'll get it in time.

Sig 220 carry models feel really great in the hand. If you find a Sig 220 Carry SAO, you are golden for life. SAO is single action only. Sig SAO models are very 1911'ish so if you like 1911's, but like Sig reliability you should try one out.

With that said, I usually carry a Shield 9 because my Carry SAO's still haven't arrived. The order time on them is pretty long.

The guy at a local gunstore was carrying a 3.3" xds 45. He let my wife and I take a look at it and I was impressed. Really thin and compact and easily concealable. Might be my next purchase.

thanks for all the reply's. I guess I should have been more specific with my question. I really like my 226 SA/DA with decocker. Is there something Sig specific that matches the ergonomics of the 226 but would be good for CCW.
