Hi My brother may have a job oppportunity for me in Colorado, is there anything i need to do with my firearms if i do move? if so what exactly do i need to do?

pretty much everything i would need to know, i currently own a M&P9 and a 686+, Ive lived in San Jose my whole life so this would be a big change and I would like my firearms to come along with me

So any help would be appreciated

Come on. I am no conspiracy theorist but this is bad advice. Alerting the authorities that you and your firearms are moving in is unnecessary and overkill. Make sure your good on mag restrictions and enjoy. You dont have anything unusual that may be an issue in some areas and chances are that if its legal in ca its ok in 99% of america. Now if you were moving to chicago, baltimore, DC, or new york city or any of those other crime free/gun free zones id tell you to contact a couple dealers in that area first. But with a revolver and a > 10 round mag mp 9 your good. And to quote the Good Book- shake the dust off your saddles when you leave ca.

        +1.

The police cannot give you legal advice. In addition, they are not required to be your friends or give you correct advice. You are also in no way obligated under the second amendment to inform the constabulary when you move with your guns, as long as you are following laws in the new home state. Either do the research yourself or contact an attorney. The police will tell you what their opinion is, but we know how well that works in CA and in a court of law, it has no bearing.

I suggest getting on forums like Calguns that are targeted towards Colorado shooters. They should be able to point you to official laws and regulations.

          This.

Another option is sell some of your toys that can be bought in CO, keep and bring only the ones that you love the most or the rarest ones. However, that's up to you, just giving my 2 cents.

Last year, CO banned the manufacture/importation/transfer of 16+ round magazines.

Therefore, it will be illegal for you to import/possess 16+ round magazines in CO.

Denver has an assault weapons ban. So, don't move to Denver County.

Sell them before you go, they will be worth much less in your new location.

All my guns are can legal so I'm pretty sure they are legal in CO I love my guns so selling is not an option, also CO from what I read allows 15 red mags so the Glock 19 I plan on buying I can use the standard mags,

I was more wondering do I have to register my firearms there or anything like that, I only have two pistols and a 12 gauge that holds 5 rounds (co says shotguns can hold no more than 8)

This what I've read in the last 24 hours

worry more about your car than your guns. Good luck on three move.

                      No registration.
Just move there, nothing else needs to be done.

I would suggest this as well. Make a couple unfortunate Californians happy, make a profit, avoid unseen legal problems. There's three reason right there.

Don't worry so much. You have every right to bring your guns with you. Unlike New York, D.C. etc. Colorado still functions somewhat like a free society.
