    S&W 617 22lr

I have wanted one for a long time, it would appear that I waited to long.
Does anybody know if you can you convert the 617, temporarily, to a single action, complete the DROS and convert back to double action?

If so, may I have a recommendation where I can transfer a gun from out of state, PPT, have it converted and DROSed in the SGV area?

    Thank you.

617-6 (current production) in both 4" and 6" lengths is on the roster until next month.

If you want to SSE a S&W DA revolver, look here: http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...d.php?t=453716

all you have to do is knock out a pin that holds the double action sear, this is after you take the hammer out, which will require a proper disassembly.

Try American Gun Works in Glendale. The last time I talked to Jeff, the owner and gunsmith, about the topic, he said he can do those exemptions on S&W revolvers. Good luck!

Btw, try Guns Direct and Gun World in Burbank. I think one of them has a 617 in stock for sale.

Why would you say that you waited too long? Why would you want to convert one to SAE to DROS, and then back to DA? As far as I have read, Smith has only said that they will not be renewing semi-autos in CA (except the SDVE and Shield which they said they WILL renew). They have said nothing about not renewing revos (at least that I am aware of).

Easy killer he didnt say anything about the semi autos They are becoming harder to find for some reason or another. I called up one of my many lgs and he said he checked four of their biggest distribution companies and everyone is sold out.

Thank you all for the advice and info.

Looks like I will be "forced" (lol...)to purchase this guy before next month.

CNJ, it is my understanding these DA's were no longer on the "list", but have since learned that we have a short window of time before they are no longer available.

Virous55, if choose not to purchase this 4" model I will share it's location with you.

Just asking a couple of questions is all. I am sure smith will renew the 617 here,as they have said nothing about non renewal.

What's the going price on a current new 617 compared to an older 6 shot one?

Well, I will say that I hope that smith renews the gun. I have thought about selling my SP101 22 in order to get a 617 myself.

I got mine brand new a couple years ago, around $800-ish. Not exactly cheap for a .22LR, yet I love this revolver so much that I would do it again.

                          Best luck shopping to OP,
