    XD 45 price check

    Hi all,

I have been looking at non-1911 45 pistols for a while. It's not that I'm anti-1911, I have a Colt Government model is stainless steel finish. Love it, but its a safe queen as it is special to me and it's got the 100 Anniversary roll mark on the slide.

I just want a 45 that I won't have ti baby or worry about the "idiot scratches".

That being said, I like the XD series pistol and saw one at a local gun store for $499.99 brand new. It's the 4" Service model. Is that a good deal for this pistol? It comes with 2 10-rd mags.

That's about average for brand new. Do you have anything else in mind like a P220, m&p, and others? Either way you choose, I'd suggest keeping an eye on the classified so you can save some money

I don't mind a P220 or an M&P 45, but I don't like the stock M&P grip. And, I'm kind of leery about buying used.

I've had all three and they were all great but didn't fit my hands

I couldn't get used to a DA/SA so I sold all my SIG's. Great guns

I liked glocks except for the fact that the way I hold the gun, the main frame would dig into the upper potion of my trigger finger so I sold all my glocks. As you can tell, I try to hold as high as possible for a lower bore axis. It works great for my but that was my only grip. I haven't shot my m&p to know just how it is just yet.

Nothing compared to the way a 1911 shoots and feels

Great gun and pretty slim grip for a double stack 45acp gun. I sold all my XD's because I couldn't get used to the grip. It dug into my hand like a cheese grater after a few hundred rounds. Maybe I have girly hands...I don't know...lol. That was the only reason. The XD's did seem like it had a ever so slightly more recoil than other polymer frames but it might just be in my head. I'm sure other will chime in on that

If you encounter the same issues with the grip, you can always melt or shave the grip down but i wasn't going to void my warranty or devalue a pistol when I can just get something else

How about the Ruger SR45? I believe that Turners has it on sale new for $449. I picked one up, and really like it. It was my first 45.

XD45 is a great gun. I have shot over 2500 rounds, not an issue, fits my hand well.

Propman07: that's great, but I live near Sacramento. Thanks for the recommendation, though. I like the looks of the SR345, for what it's worth.

Simi-Surfer: yeah, the XD feels better in my hand than the Glock 21SF.

I held the HK45C but it felt like the grip was too slick. Imagine if shooting a mag or two and the hands get sweaty. Plus the HK trigger was pretty long. I have an HK USP 40 Compact and am not crazy about the trigger (should have gotten the 9mm, too. Lol).

No problem....didn't realize that you guys up north didn't have access to a Turners.... bummer.....they are pricey on most other things, but have a good deal or two when it comes to firearms. Good luck.

Yeah, no Turner's up here, unfortunately.

$500 is what I typically saw in SoCal for an XD45 4". I had one. It was a soft shooter.
