more problems with my kimber. whats this part?

this is now my 3rd thread about different problems with my kimber. I just bought this kimber custom II 2 months ago about 300-400 rounds through it with ftf problems,a gouge in the slide, and a new problem now. I was told by many to keep shotting the gun to beak it in for the failure to feed problem. After I contacted kimber they said shoot it with an oil base for break in and spend it in if I still have the problem after 300-400 rounds. It was shooting fine today with WWB 1 ftf out of 100. But with cci blazers 4 failure to feed back to back. Anyways back to the topic. The gun was so dirty after shooting only 150 rounds the barrel look burnt the gun looked like it hasn't been cleaned in thousands of rounds. While cleaning it this time i notice that there was a large gap on this part of the frame. While looking closer I realized it's actually really loose on the back end. What is this peice and what does it do? I know it's not supose to be this loose. Input guys? send back to kimber?

Looks just like mine. It's the ejector and it works in conjunction with the extractor to get the shell flying out the way it does.

the back end of it is loose. I can lift up the back side and the gap gets pretty big and i can see the 2 pins that hold that piece in. It wasn't loose last week when i shoot and cleaned it.

Looks like an issue to me then. Shouldn't be loose at all.

Yes it's the ejector. If Kimber will pay for you to have it shipped to them, go ahead and have them fix all the issues and work out the FTF problems.

frank at irvington arms where i bought the gun from said if it needs to be shipped out they will pay for it on their dime. Great guys over there. If Kimber were to "fix" the failure to feed problem what would they do? polish the feed ramp? Also how common is it for the ejector to be loose like this? especially this early at a round count? I love my kimber but things like this make me think if i should have went SA instead.

Polishing the feedramp is generally not the best solution, and most gunsmiths that do polish the feedramp do it at the insistence of their customers. As long as your feedramp doesn't have machine marks that can catch the tip of the cartridge it is smooth enough. If Kimber does take your gun in for smithing, hopefully they'll take the time to diagnose and fix the specific cause of the problem. As for the ejector, it should be solid on there because it is the part that the rearward moving case collides with in order to launch the brass out of the ejection port. Sorry your having so much trouble, and hopefully this will all be solved soon.

About your FTF, if you are using the Kimber OEM supplied mag, I would try switching it out with a Kimber Tac Mag. Others say that Wilson Combat mags are excellent also. I had a similar problem with my Kimber (FTF), but after switching out the mag and 200 rounds later, FTF were non-existent.

I have called kimber and they have told me that the best thing to do is to ship the gun back to them. The problem is that when i asked about the turn around time the guy told me 3-5 weeks. I thought kimber had better service then this. Ship a gun via overnight but takes 3-5 weeks to change the ejector?! Im not very happy right now

Would you be happier if they said 1-3 weeks and kept it 5?

actually it's only because most of the posts i've read about sending a kimber back had a 10 day turn around. so 3-5 weeks is not what i expected at all. Should I have a local smith fix it or send it back to kimber? my birthday is in 2 weeks and I really wanted to just sit at the range for most of the day but if I send it back that's not going to happen at all

Should've bought a Sig GSR TTT.

That's it. Get another 1911 for your birthday. If you get it now you'd have it to play with on your Bday. Git to it man.

And people wonder why I love my bone-stock Colts.

But as above poster said, try some new magazines from a different vendor.
Some bone-stock Colt mags would be useful, other folks say Wilsons are good. I myself have had bad luck with CMC mags.
