I finally installed the Apex Tactical DCAEK in my 9mm shield, and after pulling the trigger once I knew it was money well spent. The grittiness is completely gone, the reset is significantly better, and the trigger is right around 5.5lbs. It takes 20 minutes or so to install with their video and most of that is spent banging on your sights with a punch. If you had an M&P sight pusher you could go significantly faster. I highly recommend the kit to anyone with a shield. It really does make a world of difference. I still have to go out and shoot it to make sure the sights are zeroed, but the trigger is awesome now.
