    Barrel insert SSE

Has anyone seen this done? I am more typically aware of the "replace the entire barrel method" - but I read about the insert option in another thread.

My question would be how they keep the insert from falling out and if it ever damages the bore. This method definitely seems a bit more odd yet clever at the same time.

I have only heard of it being done.

The reason I wrote the warning thread to which you also replied to was because what was conveyed indirectly to me about some (but not necessarily all) folks doing SSEs with inserts was disturbing.

The last one I had done used a turned down .25 barrel. The chamber end of the machined barrel has an area the diameter and length the size of the chamber that it is going in. And it has a notch to clear the extractor.

The rest of the barrel is turned down to the diameter of the caliber being converted.

It cant fall out and it doesn't damage anything .

I would think it's not easy to do correctly (working firing condition).

I could have put a .25 round in the last one I had done and shot it.

Its a barrel inside a barrel basically

Thanks for the heads up guys I'll take a picture of mine hopefully when I do it. I was just worried about possible damage to the barrel or gun since I didn't see this type of SSE before.

EBR Works did it to my PPQ, and I was silently freaking out about it. But it's my most accurate gun now, and I'm sure that metal piece is no match for the actual barrel (in terms of potentially damaging it).
