    XD Custom Shops

I'm looking to get a XD this year so I want to get some opinion on what is the best shop to use for customization. I want a shop that does excellent work with a fast turnaround time. I am willing to pay a bit more to get my gun back faster. From what I've read Springer Precisions and PRP does excellent work for the XDs.

Do you have any reservations about using Springfield's custom shop?

Springer Precisions has done some trigger work on my XD but for my 1911 Springfield loaded,I used Springfield custom shop. They were great for turnaround and they kept me in the loop at all stages of the process.
I support the NRA, if you are not in, you can't win.

I'm open to using Springfield custom shop as long as they do great work and they can turn the gun around quickly.

I'm open to both. It's really up to the quality of work can turn around time. If and extra $200 means I get my gun back in a month instead of 4 then I'm all for it.

I would prefer something local, but definitely want to get some work done on my XD's

                    I'm thinking:

                    Trigger job
                    Polish feed ramp
                    Tune ejector
                    Deburr factory parts
                    Install XS Sights

I'm not going to need a match grade barrel since the XD will be more of a HD / quick sight acquisition gun. I also like the grips quite a bit so no stippling for me.

So my XD40 is in the Springfield Custom Shop right now.
I'm not in a hurry but the turnaround time for refinishing is 6-8 weeks right now.
Mine is in for hard chrome, match grade barrel and Trijcon HD sights.

They have a special agreement with FedEx for shipping round trip for about $35.
Also their work keeps the warranty on everything intact.

My brother had his 1911 done by them including trigger, feed ramp, porting, etc.
The pistol is gorgeous. I can attest to the work. I can't say how fast they will turn it.

I like the fact that since they are the factory, there is nothing they can mess up that they will not take responsibility for repairing. That alone is enough to make me wait.

From what I've read on XDtalk, people are equally happy on both Springer Precision and Powder River.

I would call each and see what estimates on time frames are.

Then check with Springfield, the reason a lot of people go with Springfield Custom is they warranty all their work and it will not void the guns warranty.

PRP trigger is so easy to install and makes a massive difference. Just do it. SACS is amazing in the quantity if the work and value of it. Additionally it will not void the factory warranty.

                            +1!

I had two XD45's that went to Jeremy at the custom shop. Awesome work, while maintaining factory warranty. Best triggers I have felt on a polymer pistol.

Springer worked over my XD Subcompact.
                              The carry trigger job.
                              factory clean up
                              polished feed ramp
                              re crown barrel
                              sights.

And had my 1911 ionbond coated, in a week.

I'm happy with his work, and turn around time.
