CZ 75BD DA/SA Question

Hi. I'm pretty new to firearms having purchased my first handgun last year which is a CZ 75BD Police. I have a question about the SA shots though. When I go to the range, I shoot a long DA trigger pull, but the subsequent shots are not SA trigger pulls. Is there anything I need to do to have a DA first shot then SA on the following shots without manually putting the hammer back?

If it's truly a DA/SA model, you don't have to do anything. The hammer should be cocked back after the first round fires.

are you hitting the decocker when shooting, do you use correct grip, maybe thumb is hitting decocker with the recoil?

Is it possible I bought a cz 75bd police in da only? I'm not hitting the decocker by accident.

No they are DA/SA, where do you live? Is it brand new? If you live close by I could look at it.

CZ did make a DAO 75, but you'd know it if you had it. The hammer is bobbed and it says DAO on the slide.

Unless you're riding the decocker somehow, it may be a problem with your hammer. It locks back fully cocked when you do it manually, but not when firing? This is a used gun? It may be that the SA hammer hooks are worn -- either too short or rounded off, etc. There's just enough there for the sear to hold the hammer back when you cock it manually, due to that being a gentle and controlled process, but not enough to hold it back during actual firing and it's slipping off the SA hooks and falling into the 'half-cocked' hooks. I wouldn't fire it if this is the case.

Can you take a photo of the front of the hammer (the part that hits the back of the firing pin) while holding the hammer back as far as it goes? It would have to be a clear pic, but we'd be able to see the condition of the hammer hooks. Here's a pic:



You can see the sear in the SA hammer hooks in that drawing. When you pull the trigger, the sear moves up until it slips off the hooks and the hammer falls. If those hooks are too short or otherwise worn down, they won't catch on the sear and the hammer will just continue to fall as the slide goes forwards.

If you cock the hammer and look down the front of it you'll be able to see those hooks and you'll be able to see how they rest on the sear. Does it catch right? If you push on the back of the hammer a little, does it slip off the sear? You'll want to buy a new hammer if it isn't solidly catching.

Yes it is similar to riding the slide stop and wondering why the firearm does not go to slide lock.

The decocker is up high and far back, though, and you have to push it down pretty far and then run up against resistance and push hard to get it to click and decock. This seems really darn hard to do on accident. It isn't like light pressure on a slide lock that prevents it from moving upwards (or even just having a finger floating right above it). You really have to push on the darn thing to decock, and it has to travel a decent distance, and it's not in a place that's any sort of normal area to rest one's thumb at all.
