    Browning .380 magazine problem

My uncle has owned a Browning .380 for about 30 years. This gun was last cleaned maybe 10-15 years ago until last week. His friend cleaned/oiled the gun and magazine which is the original Browning .380 13rd mag.

The problem now is the magazine. After loading 13 rounds everything is fine until I start to unload it. Just like any other magazine you should be able to push each round out with your thumb and start falling out.

The ammo in the magazine gets stuck. After looking closely it looks like the front of the casing catches on the magazine and stops it from coming out. I have to wiggle the round with my thumb to free it so the round will drop out. Then after pushing out 1 or 2 rounds, it will jam again.

I disassembled and assembled the magazine 4-5 times and experienced the same problem. It seems like the round is not sitting on the follower straight to were every round will freely come out without the casing catching the magazine.

Does anyone know what this can be from? The magazine was fine until it was taken apart to be cleaned.

Any advice or info will help, I should of took pictures of the problem but I tried to explain it the best I can.

    Thanks in advance.

Only 1 way the follower can go in and I tried both sides of the spring and came up with the same results.

Sounds like your magazine spring is binding-up.

I'll just order a new spring and give that a try.

Does the magazine spring attach to underside slot of the follower? Not just lay on top of the spring.

Is there a slot on the inside top of the magazine base plate where the magazine spring clips on?

Is the mag base plate upside down?

I think the spring is putting uneven pressure on the follower and then the follower scapes or grinds against the inner wall of the body and binds-up

If the magazine was working B4 you took it apart, and you didn't smash the spring or step on the body of the magazine, then it sounds like a re-assemble issue.

I have such a magazine, but I do not have the gun. I will find a friend of mine and see if we can do a quick re-engineer/problems that might happen with re-assembly meeting.

I have not learned how to post pictures on forums, yet, and I don't have the proper camera, yet, either. If you're in the same boat this magazine issue might be a the incentive you have been looking for .

Unfortunately I don't know if any damage was done to the mag while it was being cleaned out. When I took the mag apart it was showered in oil. I cleaned it off.

First thing I looked at was the spring and it appeared to be in good shape. The follower drops into the spring. The "mag base" loops into the bottom of the spring, then you lay it flat to push the spring in and then slide the mag base plate in.

I tried putting the spring in from both sides and the results are all the same.

I going to pick it up this weekend and give it another shot, maybe I missed something.
