    G17 4th Gen input/comparison request

Hi - looking to pick up a full size 9mm .. i own several other semi's ranging from Sig P229 down to Ruger LC9, including a G27. i'd like to add a full size 9mm to the list.

my question isn't so much "is the G17 any good" as much as: for the price (being told around $575 new) should i be considering anything else? i'm using it for rec shooting only, not for ccw/hd. while i can spend more on a gun, for the price am i overlooking a viable alternative?

For what your looking for, really any of the known handgun manufactures will give you a quality gun. There are lots in that price range, finding what you want in stock and on the list(if you are not exempt)will be your biggest hurdle.
Your gonna have to get your hands on a few to really have a good idea of your likes and dislikes.
As far as full size 9mm, I only have Glocks and CZs. I like them both.

    By the way, I have a Gen 4 and a Gen 3 17. The 3 is a RTF2 and I still prefer the 4 to the 3.

I have 4th gen Glock 17 and go buy one. It's fun to shoot and it will go eat just about anything.

        G17 4th Gen input/comparison request

$575 for a G17 OTD is about right. G17 is a pretty good for HD and for the range. Other options are:

        (1) Beretta
        (2) CZ 75
        (3) Used Sig P226

$575 for a Gen 4 G17 OTD?? If OP is talking about a Gen 3, then yeah it's about right.
          The stuff that goes boom.

you can go for a Gen 3 G17 for $499 plus tax and dros instead.

I have a Gen 4 and paid about $650 OTD. Not sure if its worth the difference.

I think for that price range (+/- $100). all the major manufactures are within reach. Best to go to LGS so you can look and feel and see which calls to you the most.

              Glock 17, XD, S&W M&P, CZ 75b or SP-01, Beretta 92fs, etc.
Maybe used Sig P226, HK USP or P30L, etc.

I forgot how much I paid for my G19 Gen4, but to me it was worth it. Better grip texture (the orange peel of the Gen3 grip was too slippery), the larger mag release (yes you can add one to a Gen3, but it's just not the same), and the smaller grip size.
