    Walther P99?

I never see anyone talk or really express interest in the P99. This like most other gun sites is all Glock/Sig/HK/XD.

Anyone have one or have experience with them. I have always thought they were kind of cool looking. I'm just curious for the the lack of talk about them.
I think it can be confirmed that an alien xenomorph is absolutely no match for good ole' Alabama black snake!

If you're in a survival movie and the hot blond twists her ankle and can't walk, you damn well figure a way to carry her. If it's a dude, you shake his hand and say "best of luck".

I have one, and older generation. It's a nice gun, different than others. It's in DA/SA, with the decocker intergrated on the top of the slide. The DA is long, but light. The SA has a lot of slack in the trigger, with a weird "anti-stress" feature in the beginning of the SA stroke, acting like a pre-slack to the slack.

What is really great is the trigger reset. You thought Glocks had a short reset, this thing is amazingly short. Very close to a 1911 reset in a polymer DA/SA gun.

Only thing I don't really like is the long slack in the trigger. It's also snappier than other 9mm pistols. But the gun is accurate and fun to shoot.

Dimensions are similar to a HK P2000. It's a nice gun. If you come out to the next Calguns shoot I'll bring it along for you to try.

If you want one, get one made in Germany by Walther, not by S&W in the US.

I have been on the fence about getting one for a long time, they feel great in the hand, one of the most comfortable guns that I have shot. They also point very well, and are easy to put on target very quickly.

            P99 40 s&w

I have a P99 in 40 s&w, green frame. Its a great gun, the only downside is that the rail doesnt mate with any light out there but the one sold by walther. The newer models are 1913 railed, the sw99 have their own proprietary rail taht most lights will attach to. Carried it on a hunt in Alaska, felt safe even though it want going to stop a bear attack.

I had one of the 1st Generation P99 models in .40S&W. Gun felt like a dream in the hand, and it was tack-driving accurate for being a 4" gun. Only reason I got rid of it is that I hope (probably fruitlessly) to have a CCW someday, so I got a Glock 23 after winning a Glock certificate at a USPSA match. I have no need for more than one .40S&W gun, so I sold the P99 to pay for other toys.

I really like the 1st Gen design and really don't like the later re-design. But that 1st Gen rail is proprietary and won't mount any of the major weapon lights.

My room mate has one in 9mm, and I he loves it! I have shot it a good many times and I like it. If they were cheaper I would get one in 9mm. It has never jammed, or had a failure of any type after 5K+ rounds. He only feeds WWB through it to save on bullets. He has the newer model with the different serrations on the slide.

I own one in .40 S&W. If I had to do it over, I'd get it in 9mm. I do love the gun. It's unique, feels great, shoots straight as I'm capable of, but it is the snappiest .40 S&W I own.

It's a keeper as it is a great gun and it just looks damn sexy. At the price they sell for, everyone should pick up a "Bond Gun".

I have a P99c AS 9mm and it is a great gun. Very accurate for a small barrel length. For me it is like the cadillac of glocks, no safety. Points great but is a little snappy on recoil. If i had to do over I would get full size. But if Ca ever goes shall issue, this would be my carry gun.

The P99 is simply one of the best pistols you can own. It's accurate, reliable, durable and GERMAN made.

Absolutely love mine... it's one of those pistols that's for no good reason never developed a strong following.

I have the P99 AS TI's in 9mm and 40s&w. Both shoot great. They feel so natural in the hand, it is just amazing. My 40 did have problems with broken magazine butt plates, S&W was very quick to send replacements. I love the SA/DA trigger in a striker gun. The 40 spits the brass straight back onto my wife's forehead when shooting. She has taken to the 9.

As far as popularity, I think they did not spend as much on advertising as Springfield did when they took over the XD, so out of sight, out of mind.

Also S&W's versions of the guns were close, but not quite as good (in my opinion) as the P99s, but the price point was better. I have not seen any P99/SW99s at my local gun shops for years, but I know they are available online.

Funny you said that. I shot an IDPA match with my P99 .40S&W a few years back, when I went to pull a spare mag from my mag pouch to reload during a course of fire. Mag butt plate tears off the mag, and I have .40 rounds spitting 6' into the air and landing all around me. I grabbed my other spare mag and completed the reload, but I could hear all the other competitors behind me rolling in laughter. It was pretty funny.

I had an older German P99QA (quick action trigger) in 9mm.
It's short "single-action" trigger. I really like this trigger.

Also, I was really impressed that it's a great gun for CCW since the gun doesn't "print". The grip reminds of Ed Brown's Kobra Carry w/Bobtail look.
Once you put on a jacket, it's really difficult to tell if you are carrying a pistol.

I didn't really care for the grip. It's really slippery and when you get a sweaty palm, it's really difficult to hold on to that pistol.

                              Just my 2 cents.
