    Question on top strap cutting/burning

Thieves are the lowest form of life out there, except for liberal politicians, of course, but that's redundant.

The general consensus among the S&W crowd is that top strap flame cutting is "self limiting". As the groove becomes deeper, it lets more hot gasses out and will eventually stop erroding altogether. Unless you're re-loading some pretty crazy stuff and pushing the pressures way up, I don't think I'd worry about it. HTH c good

Most of the Scandium & lightweight magnum guns I've seen come with a small staineless steel clip or insert that fits just above the forcing cone. This is to limit the flame cutting of the topstrap. If yours in missing, contact S&W customer service.

The phenomenon came to light with the introduction of the .357 Maximum.

IHMSA shooters quickly discovered that the cutting soon stops, and does not weaken the frame to any dangerous degree. Remember, these are the guys that discovered the ultimate top limits of cartridge pressures.
"A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself...A murderer is less to fear. The traitor is the plague."......Cicero

Well I feel better, I'm going to continue to monitor them and enjoy shooting them.
Oh and they all have the metal insert, a little burnt but OK.
          Thanks
