Ruger Alaskan vs SW Air Weight .38

I can shoot my Alaskan .44 mag all day, but can only fire 15 rounds of .38 Special in my air weight Smith. What's up with that? The Smith does have Crimson Trace grips which are smaller than the stock ones, but Damn! That little gun hurts.

Different beasts. Weight and grip size make all the difference.

My 360PD is the hardest gun to shoot that I own and that includes 500 S&W. Work on two-fingered grip and controlling the muzzle flip. Have the gun push you back rather than putting a twist on your wrist. It's great practice.

You have learned the lesson of recoil and its many variables. And to think of how many salesman push guns like that and the ladysmiths etc on women. Awe, they fit in your purse better etc. Well, if they can't friggin shoot em, they aint worth buying.

Relax your tummy and don't eat beans before shooting. Still better than peeing your pants, though...

I enjoyed shooting my 642. Never bothered me at all.

Bwahahahaha! If you must eat beans lay on the hot sauce! It gives it that tangy smell.

If you put a bigger grip on that 38 it will spread the recoil instead of putting most of it in one place. Although it sure kills the compactness of the gun. That's why I like my 640 no dash.

I've had a little Taurus J frame knockoff draw blood on my strong hand with Big Dog magnums...

I hear you. I got a Ruger LCR for concealed carry and to add it to my permit had to shoot 100 rounds through it in one setting. After a few rounds I put on my padded workout gloves and it still left me with a bruise. Hurts a little too shoot, but I shot it well, so I can live with a little discomfort. And I figure I won't notice it when the adrenalin is flowing.

That's why I sold my 642. To me, it is just an unpleasant gun to shoot. I don't even want to try a 360PD or 329PD. Shot my friend's 500 this past weekend and even though it has huge recoil, the impulse wasn't as sharp so it didn't feel as bad. The 700gr round was a beast. We each only fired 1 round, actually made the bones in my wrist hurt.

I have both and 360PD is tough with full power 357 Mag loads, but 329PD is surprisingly nice to shoot. At 25 oz it's light for a 44 Mag, but the full size grip and double the weight of 360PD make it a much more pleasant gun.

Let's put it this way, I'm more accurate with 44 Mag than Ruger LCP 380.
