    G22...what gen?

I'm going to order a Glock 22 online. I know that we are not allowed to own generation 4 Glocks.
Question..how can I know what gen a Glock is?
What if I got a gen 4 by mistake?
    Thanks for your help,

Note the texture of the grips and the grove the back-straps sit in on the right (gen4). If the price is more than $550 for a new G22, it's probably a Gen4. It should also state in the description.

PS: You CAN own a gen4, you simply have to SSE it or buy it used through private party transfer. Also, most shops will charge quite a bit for transfers and more than likely have a G22 on the shelf. Do yourself and local shop a favor and buy it from them. You'd have to pay CA sales tax once it comes in anyway.

You can still own a gen. 4, if you wish. It would typically add some more cost to the buying price(Say around $100 extra), though, and only specific FFL's can bring it in & convert it to single shot. There's a sticky up top explaining it or just click here:

You can also obtain it via private party transfer if you can find someone around here selling it. You'll probably find mostly gen. 3's and those are on the list so that'd be the easiest way to get it. If you're buying online, make sure to order one that comes with 10 round magazines.

        Guys,,,thanks for your quick reply's.
Wouldn't the manufacturers item number indicate the generation?
Is it the gen 4's that come with interchangeable back straps? Oh...WH, I see the grooves.
If the only improvement is a different stippling on grip...why bother?

^the differences on thrle gen4s include: stippling is more aggressive, backstrap sizes are interchangeable (small, medium or large (large being normal I believe)), large magazine release, and a dual recoil spring.

That being said I like my gen3 Glock 22 just fine

I personally like the Gen 2 Glock's over the Gen 3's.

The mag release is also reversible on the gen4.

Gen 4's will have Gen 4 stamped on the slide and grip are different.

I'm a Gen3 guy myself, my G17, G21 and two G20's are all Gen 3's and they are still rocking.

Sure i'll probably get a Gen 4 sometime later, but honestly, if I had to pick up another glock today, i'm find with a Gen 3

also FYI, there are still PLENTY of parts and after market parts for Gen 3 and below markets, so that's something to consider as well.

                        I own G22 GEN4 and G17GEN4. I also have a GEN3 17.

I carry Glocks ( on and off duty since mid 1990's)

                        In .40 I would rather have GEN4, in 9MM GEN3.

I actually like the Gen4's beavertail grip add-on. It's the same as with the gen 3, but with the beavertail. Without any backstraps, it's a touch smaller. I thought I would like that, but apparently I have big hands or longer fingers as I found the medium backstrap fits, and the beavertail is nice to have.

Also, the gen4 comes with 3 magazines instead of 2.
