The combat and the MK25 are identical except for the stupid sticker and the anchor. Both have chrome lined barrels, parkerized controls, and the 1913 rail. You might be able to find a combat at a better price as well.

I'd pick the scorpion as a last resort... because of the long extractor. Both the Combat and MK25 have the much better short extractor.

I like that anchor. I would buy a Mk25 for no reason other than the anchor. I wish they had a fouled anchor with USN, though.

Of all the handguns I've owned, the P226 has been my favorite. I plan on getting a Mk25D soon.

When I look at Sig's site, the Combat is the only one described as having chrome-lined barrel. Also, looking at this thread (posts 14 & 15):
Since my serious photographic equipment still uses film, all I have is a 5 megapixel point-and-shoot for digital. I only use it for tasks, rather than actual photography. I'm going to have to get a pro digital camera system soon. But I digress... I was able to get one shot that is somewhat...

it looks like the MK25 *does not* come with a chrome-lined barrel. Then there are others who say that the Desert version does....

Here is another thread that indicates that some MK25s have chromed barrels while others do not:

My Sig MK25 has a chrome-lined barrel, as does my MK25 Desert. As for the OP's question, I don't see any real difference between the MK25 vs. the Combat, with the exception of the front slide serrations on the Combat model. MK25, MK25 Desert, Combat, it's up to your taste, but you can't go wrong with any of them.

As for the Sig 226 Scorpion, that doesn't have a chrome-lined barrel or phosphated internals IIRC, nor does it have the 1913 rail. It does have a nice set of Hogue grips though.

MK25 and Combat will have holster fitting issues with many P226R holsters because the rail is wider.

                      I couldn't decide either;

                      Sig P226 Rail
                      Sig P226 TacOps
                      Sig P226 Blackwater
                      Sig P226 Stainless Steel
                      Sig P226 Elite Stainless
                      Sig P226 Mk25 FDE
                      Sig P226 Mk25
                      Sig P226 Combat
                      Sig P226 SAO

Is the MK25 Desert legal in CA?

Legal to buy and legal to own are two very different things.

Why not such so much love for the scorpion?

True but the MK25 Desert is legal to buy and own. Buy via SSE (for now) or PPT.

226's are all different flavors of the same icecream.
I would stay away from the COMBAT, the rail on it is "Milspec" which means it will NOT fit in ANY holster designed for the "226 with rail."
Looks like the MK25D also has the same rail.

I do kinda dig the beaver tail grip and front slide serrations of the Scorpion.

                                So I say:
                                Scorpion, MK25, Combat.

I have the all stainless version (without the beavertail grip) and I had thought of trading it in just so I can get the Stainless Elite with the beavertail. In 9mm, the stainless frame soaks up a lot of the already mild recoil and it is just a pleasure to shoot and is one of THE MOST accurate combat 9mm's. Not very good for carrying in a holster as it is heavy.

If you want the FDE color, I get it. But consider the Stainless Elite as it is much easier to clean and you can paint the OUTSIDE of the gun while the inside is still nice and satin stainless.
