    New Ruger SP101

Hey guys. Just wanted to make a posting of my new Ruger SP101 3". I already love this thing and I haven't even shot it yet. I will say the trigger and action aren't nearly as good as my Smith's are, but I love the size and weight of the Sp101. Small enough to CCW yet heavy enough to take the brunt of .357 loads. I really cant wait to take her out to the range this weekend.

I already installed a set of Badger Boot grips, which feel amazing. Completely changes the feel of it. I also installed a Wolff 9lb spring and a 8lb return spring. It deff made a difference, But its still not near what Id like. A trip to Gemini Customs in deff in the future.

anyway enough rambling. Heres a couple pics

Darn you.... yeah I'm jealous. I rented the 3" last week and loved it. Shot the gp100 before too.

So I've spent the last week reading up on the sp100.

I can't do it right now but my next purchase will be my first revolver. I want the 2.25" sp101.

      Congrats on ypur purchase

Looks really cool. I've got the same grips on my 2.25" DAO version…they are great so far, EXCEPT when I pack it with full-load Buffalo Bore .357 or similar. You'll see. I like the SP101…built solid!

Nice. So the springs make a definite difference? I have a gp100 and was planning on getting some lighter springs in mine.

Yeah, I put the wolff springs on my GP100, and definitely lightened the trigger pull.

Oh yeah it made quite a big difference. I have the 10lb main spring in now, but Im gonna change that out to a 9lb main spring and Im gonna replace the return spring out to an 8lb. Right now with the 10lb the pull feels decent, but the return I dont like at all. Hopefully the mixture of the 9lbmain/8lb return fixes it.

BTW thanks for the complements guys!

                  Good-looking Ruger revolver.

I have thoroughly enjoyed my Ruger's, as I'm sure you will enjoy yours.

                    Awesome!

I dry fired mine about ~1500 times and the trigger is a lot better now.

Beautiful gun. I had the 2.25" for my first gun. I wish I never had sold it.

Tonight I changed out the main spring to a 9lb and the return spring to an 8lb and when I 1st pulled the trigger I couldn't believe the difference. Feels like a completely new gun now. We'll worth the $10 for the spring kit. I would have paid $50 for it. I also cleaned out the return spring housing with a drill bit and lubed everything. Trigger feels awesome now!

Something to consider on trigger return spring tension:
The softer the return spring, the slower the trigger moves forward when finger pressure is released, and the more likely it is that the trigger will not go all the way forward, especially with a finger dragging on it.

This is of little concern in a target or range gun, but may lead to short-stroking (The trigger does not go far enough forward to fully reset, so it locks when it is pulled to the rear).

For a defense gun where you may need to fire as quickly as possible, you will want a strong return spring for a fast re-set and to help pull against your possibly over-anxious finger.

                            Very nice! Love the grips.

                            I have a 4" GP100. I want to add a SP101 too.
