    handgun flowchart error...

I noticed a big error on the handgun flowchart,

The location of the question: "does the firearm have a smooth bore or a vertical foregrip?"

There should be a cavet for the franklin xd-25 (model number may be inaccurate) as it has one legally, but is not a handgun ad defined by OAL. Instead its classified as a "firearm"

I can see an uninformed LEO looking at this flowchart when my pistol and his legelly registered/purchased franklin pistol are side by side. The flowcharts description needs a second bubble leading to "not a handgun" if OAL is > 26.5" (I believe that is the limit).

I know I have a few typos, but had to point it out since many calgunners use this flowchart.

Why are you looking at the handgun flowchart when you say the gun in question is not a handgun?

Frozen in 2015, it is falling out of date and I can no longer edit the content. But much of it is still good!

Everything but OAL says handgun.... but its sold as an "ar pistol" by name. Maybe an OAL length question up front to kick out of handgun flowchart?

There's the atf letter floating around on this site, and my friend got a copy whwn he pirchased his.

So basically, its an AOW that ISNT an AOW because ATF granted an exception. Since CA doesn't have that classification its NEITHER a pistol NOR a rifle. Thats a pretty small niche.

My guess is that anyone venturing into this realm is pretty well aware of the laws before they buy this firearm. Knowing that you have a rare example of an exception to the law, I would expect the owner to have bought something like this after weighing their enhanced risk of LEO confusion. I vote to leave the flowchart as-is.

It's been discussed before. The Franklin Armory XO-26 is a handgun under CA law, but not an AOW. The CA handgun definition has nothing to do with OAL, only barrel length.

The flowcharts do need to be updated, unfortunately the mix between CA SBR/SBS, AOW, and AW laws, all the possible configurations, and constantly changing ATF rulings make it difficult to create a nice pretty flowchart.

yes, the handgun flowchart could use an update but I have not had the time to do so. I think it would take 2-3 additional boxes to cover the XO-26 and similar items, plus all the PC section references would need to be updated to reflect the new code.

Do you want an AOW or C&R SBS/SBR in CA?
