Need help picking a cz for first handgun!!

I'm gonna get my first handgun in about a week or so and I'm pretty dead set on getting a cz cause I think its the best price for an all metal gun. The 75 Compact in .40 fit my hand like a glove (i have smaller hands) much better than the standard full size 75. I really like the weight of the gun and the rail. The 9mm compact doesn't come with a rail (i like the look) and the p-01 is alloy(i like heavy). I've never held a p-01 but is the weight difference very noticeable? Which one should i get?

If it is your first handgun and you are not willing to get a .22 to start I would get standard 75 in 9mm. More recoil helps develope bad habits (flinch)

If the Compact 40 (one of the favorites of my collection) fits your hand the best get that.

I voted for the Std 75B (got one also in 40) as it is a good base gun for shooting and developing skills.

The full size in 40 doesn't recoil bad either (although the 9mm kicks less obviously).

I always extend the offer for members to shoot either of mine to see if they really like them before purchasing.

Do you care if you have a rail or not?

Do you want a beavertail or not?

I would chose one of the full-size ones myself. I have both a P-01 and an SP-01, and the P-01 sits in the safe like a neglected stepchild.

I can't believe that most people (75%!) are recommending the gun doesn't fit the OP's hand as well, or a bigger one.

My pick, given the OP's criteria: P-01. Fits hand well, compact, 9mm, rail. Weight difference is a non-issue, IMO. The guns are all hefty enough and balance well. Weights are listed at cz-usa.

Big issue not mentioned is safety vs. decocker. I love my PCR - Compact with decocker, but no rail (which I don't need and don't like the looks of). Perfect -- for me.

Go w/ a 9mm. The P-01 sounds like just the ticket (provided you're okay w/ a decocker). If you're not planning on going "cocked n' locked," go w/ the P-01.

Also, if it's your only gun, a compact sized gun is more versatile than a full-sized gun. Otherwise, I'd suggest the ol' full-sized 75b. The SP-01 is significantly heavier than the standard 75b--it's more of a range or HD gun, IMHO.

                  SP01...

is one of my weapons on my CCW permit; got it nearly 2 years ago, has a rail on it and has had trigger job by Angus Hobdell. It's heavier than my 45acp H&K's which are also on my CCW permit.

Can't get much better than that. Now go buy it, shoot it, and post up pics

If you like the 75 Compact then get it in 9. That is what I voted for (1 of only 2 to vote that way). If you want a smaller CZ then you have to decide if you want the compact (safety, steel) or P01 (decoder, alloy, integral rail).

I'd also definitely try and get the Kadet kit. They run about $300 now which is a bit pricey since you are getting into Buckmark or Ruger terrritory. I got the Kadet a couple months ago and love it. Sights and accuracy are great and every shot is smoothing the trigger on my 75B a little bit more. No recoil so you can focus on proper technique and not get bad habits due to recoil (like Sammy says above).

CZ 75b in .40 was may first hand gun and am still very happy with it, I shoot it almost every other week. However, these days it serves me as a dedicated .22 with the Kadet conversion. When you get your CZ I strongly suggest getting the kit, its the real deal, not just a mediocre training tool, but a seriously accurate and reliable shooter.

As a matter of fact, I just shot another 525 rounds through it a few hours ago and had two people ask me what I was shooting because they were amazed by the accuracy.

I voted on the SP01....its a biased vote since I own one. But it is probably the heaviest of the bunch since you like heavy.....and it is a tack driver.

I like the 40 cal compact model the best but I really don't like the snappiness of the .40. Anybody have that specific model? How does the gun handle the recoil? Damn cz, if only they made it in 9mm... Does the weight between the p-01 and the steel compacts really make that much of a difference?

Get what fits your hands. I have small hands too.

Earlier Compact 40's had mag problems which appear to have been addressed.

You should probable read about the pistol anyway before you buy.
