    Off roster Question

So I googled and used the search function on this one but I could not get a clear answer to my question. As a newly hired Federal LEO can I purchase off roster handguns without the SSE process? I know that I do not need the HSC and I would need a letter from my department for standard cap mags and to wave the thirty day waiting period. I am sorry if this topic is beaten to crap but I have been spending my free time seeing what benefits I have in the firearm world now compared to three weeks ago when I was just a disabled veteran! Thanks ahead Russ

The fate of the wounded rest in the hands of the ones who apply the first dressing.

Yeah, buy a couple of off roster handguns and after you figure out which one you like, sell me the other. I am thinking Ruger SR-1911 I have been seeing in my dreams. Maybe a Gen 4 Glock.

Great plan, that way he can see the CA legal system from the side of the accused.

That will be a valuable experience for a newly minted LEO.

I'd suggest looking into guns that are reasonably priced elsewhere and don't have similar substitutes on-roster. For some guns there are very similar substitutes on-roster. If it were me, I'd look into guns where similar models don't appear on the roster. I think the Springfield XDS is a good example. No XDS's are on roster at all, and no prior versions exist.

I'm a huge Sig fan and drool after some off-roster 226 & 229's, but some very similar models do appear on the roster. There are a lot of Glock lovers out there and the Gen 4 is an extremely popular SSE choice, but prior Glock versions are still on-roster and easy to find. If I had the opportunity, my first target would be something where a similar alternative was not available.

              Good luck and enjoy.

So I went to a Gun store in hayward today because they are listed on Sig's website as a distributor for there LEO pricing and I told the guy at the counter that I wanted the 226 Combat and when I handed him my Creds he told me I could not purchase that pistol because it was off roster and I am a Federal LEO and I could only get a discount on Ca compliant models. So is he right or is he just misinformed? Thanks Russ

                    Federal LEO’s can purchase non-roster
Federal LEO’s cannot purchase high capacity magazines
Federal LEO’s can purchase assault weapons with proper authorization letters
Federal LEO’S cannot waive the 10day waiting period with a letter.

Some action pending regarding the magazines. For now, these are your special powers.

So I should just print out the verbage of the bill and highlight this section and show it to him I take it.

"This bill would exempt the sale of handguns to, or the purchase of handguns by, federal law enforcement agencies from the application of those prohibitions"

Or you could give your business to a shop who doesn't have their heads completely up their behinds.

Yes, but they still might refuse. Some shops/people are beyond reasoning with - good luck.

Try to find a shop that specializes in LE sales. They should be more up to date with the current laws and how they relate to FLEO's.

Haha I like this idea. I feel like a lot of FFLs don't have a good idea of what the law states and just won't sell things to you just to protect their behinds.
