    CCW Options

I live in Fresno and am going to be applying for my CCW permit soon. I'm leaning towards a Sig p238 for my main carry gun, any other thoughts/suggestions?

I'm 5'10" 155 so I'm looking for something thats pretty slim with a good trigger. DA/SA or just SA is my preference but I wouldn't mind a DAO if it had a smooth trigger pull.

Sig makes good guns so wouldn't question there. I think asking a question like that opens a pandoras box of opinions. Asking a man about his favorite CCW is kinda personal. You know it all comes down to what fits your hand well, you shoot well, how intend to carry the firearm and what you are comfortable with. I would be inclined to step up to 9mm at least and fair amount of my friends carry Kimber ultra carry in .45ACP and a few other firearms like that. For me a good gun you can rely on is a Glock and it just so happens they are coming out with their first .380 CCW gun. Unfortunately it won't be Califonia legal for us regualat Joes anyway. If I were a LEO, I would definitely go that route. Some other options are S&W M&P Shield, Kahr, Springfield has their own varients. Ruger makes some good entries as well, however I have found that their triggers have been less than great. A friend of mine has one of the Ruger SR9c and likes it though. Some of it also depends on your budget and the availability. The latest thing some of those I know are falling in love with is the Ruger LC9 which won the best new carry gun a couple years ago. Trigger stinks, but thing is a great pocket gun and serves a particualr purpose at a cost of around $360. It just so happens that Gun Genie has lots of those in stock at the moment.

I would really classify it as mediocre. The stock trigger is better than the stock trigger my Springfield XD9 came with (now sporting a powder river upgrade, world of difference).

LC9 is a nice gun. Pretty accurate for such a small package. And a small price too. But if you have large hands, it might be too small.
      Sorry, not sorry.

I know someone in Fresno who is going to be selling the LC9 soon. Let me know if you what his contact info. He's kept it in perfect condition for the past year, but he has big hands and has decided to go just a bit bigger for his carry. Let me know. His LC9 has a laser on it.

I have an LC9 that has treated me very well, yeah the trigger is long, but mine has smoothed out. I carry the LC9 a LOT, or did. About a month ago I got a Shield and love it. Maybe check out some of the Kahrs as well?

I live in fresno and got my permit almost 2 years ago. Starting to retest in acouple of weeks.
I like the sig 238 and might buy one soon. But I dont think I would carry a pistol cocked and locked. Out of the 4 guns on my permit I carry my lcp 380 the most then my seecamp 32. I like pocket carry the most. Cant do iwb holsters because the line of work I do.

I have an LC9 and love the size, but that's about all I like about it. I would say spend the money and get a SA EMP. I have one and it will be added on my ccw. Great little shooter..

Unless you train with a cocked and locked gun, I would not look at a carry gun that is cocked and locked. My.02.

Why is everyone so hesitant about carrying cocked and locked? It seemed a little scary to me at first but then I realized that is what that gun is intended for.

Glock 26 or lcp loaded chamber.

Go with the P938 instead. Basically the same handgun but in 9mm. You can do an SSE since it's not on the Roster. If you like 1911 style handguns, the other option I would recommend would be the Sig 1911 Ultra Two Tone. Amazingly accurate, holds 7+1 of 45 ACP and highly concealable. Also off roster.

IMHO, if you're going to carry .380, it needs to be LCP, Kahr P380 sized. To me, there really is no reason to not have at least a 9mm for something that can't be pocket carried. (Now someone will say you can pocket carry the P238...and that's fine, but I wouldn't)

                        Good luck!

I don't have small hands but still love my LC9. My wife wanted one so I got her one and took it to the range yesterday to function test it. If you decide on the LC9 and you do have bigger hands, make sure your magazine has the pinky extension....it feels better in your hand (at least it does to me).

People complain about the trigger but I train with my HKs (HK45c and USP9) by shooting the DA first followed by SA follow up shots.

In this video, I shoot the LC9 with and without gloves.

I really like the LC9 for being able to wear slim fitting athletic shirts and barely print at all.

Ruger's finish sucks on the LC9 (I'll admit). After in and out of the holster many times, I've worn it out a bit. I have it currently at GKC Armory for a Cerakoted slide finish. I'll post up pictures later.

I carry either a 642 or a Shield 9. Both work perfect for me.
