We really need better pictures, you know, something that is in focus and includes closeups. Right now all I can tell is that it is a 4" barreled Colt. A serial number would help too. If it still has the original finish and if it checks out to be in the serial number range of guns that were shipped to the US government, it could bring as much as $700. If it has been refinished (and from the picture it looks like it has) I wouldn't pay more than $300-350.

I am assuming that the barrel is marked "Colt Commando/.38 Special. If so, it is a very early one as production started in 1942 and ran until 1945, with a total production of 50,617. They were produced with barrel lengths of 2,4 or 6 inches, with the original finish being parkerized. What it is basically, is an Official Police with different barrel roll marks.

The fact that it has been refinished has ruined nearly all of the collector value. The value in it as it sits is almost purely as a shooter and that is the lower number that I stated above. I might add that the grips have been replaced as it shipped from the factory with plastic grip panels.

            go onto www.gunbroker.com

search for both current auctions and completed auctions....

it will help establish a real price

When I read "Colt Commando" I was thinking of the SBR. I had never heard of the a Colt Commando Revolver. Guess I need to get out more! Very nice handgun.
