Also sig sp2022 little thick but and a little on the larger size but not what I'd consider full size. Great value though and reliable well made gun.

I like the P6 a lot, but I think it is a bad choice in this case. The OP does not seem to have other guns to use (just the one in the safe) and has a pretty specific budget. Most P6s on the market are older and therefore have the older feed ramp. If one can be found with the P225 style feed ramp, then it would be a solid choice. The older feed ramps tend not to feed HP ammo reliably (and you can't really hand test this, it must be live fire). Some do, but why take the chance if it is the only gun he will have. Given the request for a compact, it seems unlikely this is meant only as a range gun (ball a moos no problem). OP may or may not be technically inclined, but if he is not there is a high probability that additional costs will be incurred to get HP to feed reliably (blowing right past the budget, assuming he can even find one where he is for $400).Comment

G19. I wouldn't hesitate to go used. Glock parts are inexpensive and easy to replace/upgrade.
I'd also recommend this DVD. I got mine off ebay: http://www.midwayusa.com/product/186...locks-rock-dvd Read the reviews.Comment

Of your list, I would try to source a G19.. but at your price range it might take a while. Personally, I would look for a used Springfield XD 3.8 or 4". They are commonly sold for $400-$450, and I've seen more than a few under the $400 price point. There is usually a good selection for sale here in the marketplace. IMO for the price, the XD will be a great bang for your buck."Everybody is a genius. I'm pretty sure the M&P 9c already dropped and the M&P 40c drops tomorrow.Consider this, by the time youve shot 1,000 rds and it really shouldnt take all that long. Figure one good handgun class and 3 range trips you will have spent $250 in ammo. Why limit yourself to $400 guns? Go m&p 9 compact or glock 19. Remember all guns should be glocks and all glocks should be glock 19's. :-)
My vote is for the Glock 19 new - pay a little more. They should be right at $499. That's the same price as the XD-9SC too.
I am picking up a Glock 26 here soon.Comment
