I haven't built a dedicated pistol, but have had great success with the dedicated rifle i put together, and I have been looking to do a pistol with an 80% poly i have. From what I gather you gotta do the sse crap once you have completed milling so it can legally be a pistol lower first. There is a zero round mag called the original bobsled for like $45 on midway and a bb you should be good to go in that department. I have also been eye balling .22lr complete pistol uppers from taccom3g as they have a great cs rep, and quality parts. Just my $.02

you dont need to buy a single shot thingie you can easily make one out of wood and slide it in a magazine

generally it costs just as much to do a 22lr as it does to make a 223

so if you stop now and just buy a 10/22 you will come out ahead

you absolutely need a fixed magazine so take your pick of the maglocks available

@Staticsouls- Thanks for the reccomentdation. I will check out taccom3g.

@bohoki- Thanks for the heads up. That's so true it would be cheaper to buy a 10/22, however, I already own 10/22. I'm going to make this a slow build so the high cost will be spread out over a period of time. I really enjoyed building my first AR and look forward to the AR pistol.

The cool part of a .22 pistol is that you dont need a buffer tube on the back.

Personally I prefer and use a .22 conversion BCG in my 5.56 AR's and pistols

I did look into the .22 conversion BCG for my AR. Do you even have any problems with the cycling and how is the accuracy of a 22lr round in the 556/223 barrel?

Shop rifle parts (2,783) at Brownells, including barrels, stocks, triggers, and bolt carriers to customize, repair, or upgrade your rifle’s performance.

If you stick to a dedicated .22 ditch the buffer tube and plug it. Since most use a one point sling and push the gun away from the body i think the plug is perfect.

That's a nice one. Have you seen this one?

both are good and will work, but the spikes tactical can be more than just hand tightened and is $4 cheaper.

Wow, Im already ball parking the upper build at $500 plus easily depending on hand guard, can see why people go conversion instead.
Yeah, I ball parked around the same price and that was for a cheap build.

I dont use non-plated(plain lead) or cheap, bulk crap in it and it works great. I shoot shotgun shells against my friend's 10/22 at 50 yards and it makes easy contact on 100 yard steel gongs. Same POI at 100 as 5.56, different at 50.

Only issue I ever had was ammo related, where the rear of the case popped off and send burning powder into the action of my rifle and on my hand

The reason for the no lead bullets is because I want to reduce lead fouling and buildup in the gas tube since it just sits in there while shooting .22. The amount of crap that blows out the first round of 5.56 is immense

I built a dedicated pistol using a stub M16A1 (1 in 12 twist) barrel and a Ciener conversion kit. Initially, I used a Spike's Pistol Plug instead of a buffer tube, but found it hard to use peep sights unless I held the pistol very close. I wound up ditching the plug and using a pistol buffer tube.

I wouldn't recommend the use of a stub barrel like mine, the accuracy is nothing to write home about. When it gets to the top of my priority list, it'll be replaced with a CMMG pistol barrel.
I'm retired. That's right, retired. I don't want to hear about the cop who stopped you today or how you didn't think you should get a ticket. That just makes me grumpy!
