    Grayguns suggestions?

Hi all. I sent my new p220 Equinox off to Grayguns last week. I ordered the reduced reset comprehensive duty package and intermediate trigger modification. I'm sure that at least a few of you have had some experience with their work. Are there any "must have" suggestions? I'm particularly curious about these 2 options:

Welded and fitted internal overtravel stop (not visible from outside of gun, USPSA Production legal) – $50
Single action pre-travel stop that reduces the free slack take-up in single-action mode by approx 50% – $35

Not sure exactly what to expect with those 2 options so any feedback would be helpful. I know, I know, just call Grayguns. I feel bad bothering them with questions since they seem awfully busy. I just authorized my estimate mid last week so I'm sure I can add to it if needed. Thanks for your input.

P.S. A big THANKS!! to Peter at Mount Pleasant Arms in San Jose. He accepted this gun from out of state for me and also set me up with a new p226 Dark Elite!! Yes, starting off the new year right. My New Year's resolution is to buy no guns with MDS's or LCI's ! If you want to be sure no LGS employees paw at your items while in the 10 day wait Peter's personalized service is fantastic!

Kind of depends on intended use. I'm sure other members can chime in regarding other mods, but I've owned a P226 with the duty package. Worth the money though I parted with it.

While I can see the benefit of the internal overtravel stop...as long as you keep it clean so it doesn't interfere with letoff...I'm not sure what you are looking for by reducing the pre-travel.

If you already have the skill level to take advantage of their reduced reset, you'd never get any advantage from reducing the trigger's SA pre-travel.

If you don't have that skill and are going with the reduced reset, because of a perception or something you were told you needed, you might also like the reduced pre-travel.

The amount of slack in the SA trigger is pretty generous as the gun was designed as a Service piece and they allowed for dirt/grit entering the action. You don't need that allowance in a range gun which will usually be kept much cleaner. Plus the gun is already there (no additional shipping) and the action will already be apart; so the cost is quite reasonable.

I've traveled and taught with Bruce and you can feel the improvement after their work and it will likely make it easier to reach a higher level of skill...but you'll need instruction to take full advantage of the modifications

Thanks for the input folks. This gun will be an HD/range gun so just looking for reliability and a comfortable shooter. I want the gun to be as good as it can be for those tasks. I'm not that skillful of a shooter but enjoy shooting. I was not sure what to expect with the 2 options I mentioned above. I didn't want to feel like I missed out on something, since it was already at the shop. Thanks 9mmepiphany for that info. The gun was a good shooter before I sent it off so perhaps I'll just go with what I ordered so far.

If it were I, I'd add the internal overtravel stop...like you said, it's already there and if the extra $50 will fit in your budget, it's the cheapest you ever be able to have it done.

Are you having them do anything to the sights?

Thanks. What's another $50. I wasn't planning on doing anything with the sights but thought about it. It's got the Siglite night sights on it now. They have several options. Any suggestions?

            Warren Tactical rear sight: $95
            Dawson/Warren Combo: $175
            Warren rear/Night Sight front: $165
Meprolight Night Sights: $130 (Green front with your choice of green, orange or yellow rear)
Standard Trijicon Night Sights: $139 (Green front and rear)
Trijicon HD Night Sights: $195 (Choice of orange or yellow front dot)
            Heinie Straight 8: $185

For competitive shooting, Bruce is very high on he Dawson/Warren combo. The Dawson comes in a great variety of heights to allow them to exactly match it to your gun. The fiber optic is very bright and the base is very well made, they take a lot of care in fitting it (it needs to be filed down to fit correctly in the dovetail) The Warren is a nice combination with a "U" notch rear for the front dot to ride in. It is very fast on target.

If you must have a nightsight, pairing a front lamp with the Warren rear seems to work well too. I didn't know they were now offering 3-dot nightsights. They didn't used to, but I guess if demand is high enough they won't turn away the money.

They test fire all their work before they send it out, so you'll know it will come back to you zeroed. Ask for your Siglites back and you can sell them to offset the cost of replacement

I'd like to have something fairly bright in the front since I usually shoot indoors, it's a bit dim. I'll call them tomorrow with the additions. Thanks everyone! Nothing to do now but hurry up and wait.

Good point. I definitely need to spend more time and some money on the intangibles. I guess the New Year's resolutions are no MDS's, no LCI's, more classes.
