    First Time Handgun

remember your first time shooting a handgun? or maybe your first time seeing one?

My cousin had this pistol that was a single shot /revolver looking deal. Savage model 101. I couldn't get over how it made me feel like my Remington bolt action was suddenly not so cool anymore. Heheh.

(the thread with the single shot revolver got me thinking)

My first was a .410 Remington shotgun; neighbor down the street was into clay and Quail and invited the neighborhood to go out with him, so my Dad said OK, I missed all but 1 that day and have been hooked since, I don’t shoot shotgun anymore just pistols.

The first handgun(s) I shot, I don't know what they were. My brother and his biker buddies and I (and their families, of course) all went camping on BLM land somewhere..and my brother let me figure out how to use his guns. I put them all on the tailgate, got bullets for each one, figured out which bullets go where, then I figured out how to load and operate each gun. Very scary stuff, even though I was 14. Glad I didn't shoot myself or someone else. I figured out that I should make sure the guns weren't loaded and not to point the guns at anybody. The rest was just luck! I know there was a colt .45 semi-auto which he still has.

Other than that, I shot a .357 magnum revolver and some other guns. Then MY first gun owned was a Beretta 92fs. Took a while to register that I owned a gun..lots of years of fud making me think I shouldn't have one. Now I can't imagine how I'd feel without a gun.

My first time shooting a handgun was at the Firing Line in Huntington Beach.

I rented a sub-compact Glock in .45acp. It was fun and scary at the same time. But all the fun stopped when I had a FTF. I cleared the jam eventually myself without undue harm to the gun or others, and finished the rest of the 50 rds of range ammo I was provided.

It taught me two lessons that day:
        1. Never buy/use range reloads.
        2. Don't buy a sub-compact .45 handgun.

my 1st time firing a handgun was on a camping trip with family and friends. I was just married for about 1-2 years....went from that trip to buying a Marlin 60 rifle in 22LR and then working in the gunstore that I bought the rifle in, to reloading and starting to cast my own....I now own about 10 guns and my wife has come to understand that they are now a part of our lifestyle/home....I have now taught my 6 year old how to reload ammo...She seats the bullet and pulls the handle...can't wait to get her into shooting although she went with me to pick up my lower for the AR and she stated to me on the way into the store, "Daddy, don't shoot me!" that prompted a long talk about gun safety and why she would make such a statement....

Anyway, its been 15 years of gun ownership and enjoyment. I try to take all the family/friends shooting and they all enjoy it...

First time shooting a gun was a .22, first time shooting a handgun was a 1970's Browning Hi-Power made in Belgium my father still has it and still shoots great, even if she don't look 100% I'd probably say its 80%.

My first time was in the early 90s at the shooting range at the San Quentin prison. I know folks who worked there. The guns were semi-autos - though not sure what kind. The first time I shot a revolver was a few years ago at a friend's place. It was a beat up Colt PeaceKeeper .357 mag - had quite the bark. I guess I took to the wheelguns since I've been buying them ever since.

After shooting rifles since I was 6, my first time with a pistol I was 12, and it was with a .22 semi auto, I think a Ruger. I was thrown in to it, handed the pistol and a magazine and a box of .22. I quickly learned not to let your support hand be anywhere near the rear of the slide, after losing a chunk of my thumb knuckle. Point well learned and it only took once.

I'm not sure if it was a Llama Comanche or the S&W 66 snubbie that was my first magnum fired, with the S&W 66 pointing towards the sky after every shot is very memorable. Actual gun that I shot first was a S&W 22lr revolver, I think it was a kit gun.

My dad's old Colt Peacemaker .22lr/.22mag.

I absolutly love this gun...It's great to learn on and a single shot revolver will teach you how to make every shot count. I just recently purchased one myself.

Single shot? That's really a cool one.
