Sig Quality?

In my research for my next purchase....I started considering the Sig line...in particular- the 228 or the 226. I notice some articles and reading I did online talks about the recent lower quality of the Sigs coming off the line..

Is it true that their quality control is suffering some problems right now, or has that issue passed? I do not have a sig yet and would love to add one to my stash, but I would hate to add a lemon to my bunch...

Sig is generally excellent quality. Some of the designs had flaws, such as their 1911s with external extractors.

If you get a P228, it'll be an older manufacture, and very high quality. A new P226 will still be good, but just not the same as the P228 (european manufacture vs American, stamped slide vs milled)

I just bought a pair of Sigs in the last few months; one, a SAO (single action only) P220 Carry, and one of the ubiquitous (and quite fine) little P6/P225 german police trade-ins.

I have a 1998-vintage P220 (in .38 Super) that I bought on a lark 10 years ago -- and while I have some *really minor* issues with my newest Sig (the disassembly lever seems to have some slop/play in it that hangs up the slide when cycled slowly) I have to tell you -- the gun is a friggin laser. And I love it.

I have a 226 that I bought new in '94. It is one of the nicest pieces in my collection. Fit and finish are as nice as anything I have. The trigger action is smooth as glass and it has never had a functional failure no matter what kind of ammo, factory or gun show reloads, I run through it.

Obviously, I can't speak for the quality of the newer made Sigs, but I can say that you'd definitely be satisfied with an earlier model.

I have a few sigs some were used and a few were new when I bought them, no new(recent) ones but I have never had a problem with them.
I got one of the P6's and it is a favorite one to take to the range along with my P228 in 40cal. All ammo has been fed with out a problem.
All products will have a bad one now and then but Sig will fix it if it is bad.
So go buy, shoot and enjoy!

the only sig i own is a 26 year old P6. just pickd it up last month in fact. however ,i've heard of sigs qc being less than its beenn recent years. mine has alreasy been in the high desert of nevada and has fed 6 boxes of various graqdes of ammo perfectluy
this being my only example is so far an amazing performer. buy a german made 226 or any 228 you canget your hand on

I didn't buy them cause they are at all lacking in any aspect. All but
2 were second hand (and one of these was ANIB)... I've noticed a difference in the feel of the US made models. Personally, I'd say my faves are the WGerman mfgd models.

Take the time to locate an original SigSauer like the WGerman (or German) made, folded steel 226 or 228.

These are the pistols Sigs rep was built on.

You mean P229 in .40 cal right? I thought whole reason they made the P229 was because the P228 was not able to handle the pressures of .40 cal.

I have never experienced a SIG quality problems firsthand. While I have read about many issues, they seem to be focused around a few models (namely the Mosquito and GSRs). I've also read about SIG's issues with the external extractor for the .45ACP offerings. Once again, I've never seen this first hand (all of my P220s and my GSR have internal extractors). Since you're looking at a P228 or P226, I wouldn't worry too much.

I've got a second-hand P220 SAO, it's two or three years old, no problems with the quality. Got a couple aftermarket mags that need stiffer springs, though...

buy a 228 or 226 with confidence

the problems were with
1. the Mosquito...it's more a toy than a trainer
2. mostly early GSRs...they were spec'd wrong
3. some stainless slide 220 and most of the 220 Carry
4. a limited offering of CPO pistols

Sig 228 NEVER came in 40s&w and there is no 40 conversion for that pistol.

In hindsight... Of the dozen sigs I've owned I've liked them all (including the GSR), EXCEPT for my P226 Navy. Something about that trigger was never quite Sig-like. That's not to say any Glock, XD, etc could hold a candle to it.
